Is the 30,000km diameter stated in Cryptum the new size, or is it just a screw-up?

When I first read it, I though it was some sort of prototype, which would eventually be replaced with the smaller, 10,000km version, but seeing traffic around the forum I'm begining to wonder.

Maybe it's a mess up and was supposed to be a circumference. A diameter of 10000km would give it a circumference of about 30000km, right?

The circumference of a 10,000km ring is 31415.926535897932km, so it is close.

Signatures are for squares.

Either way, there's much about the rings left to be explained.

Pretty much the entire first wave of Halo's was destroyed. I like to consider what we saw in Cryptum, the first variant of Rings. And the ones we see in the main trilogy the second variant.(Excluding Delta Halo, which would be the first variant and the ring Gravemind, the precursor, and MB were on for 40 somethin' years.)

The ark only rebuilds 7 rings. Despite the fact that there was originally 12. The control room only has a spot for 7 rings, despite the fact that there was 12. I believe all of this will be explained by the end of the Forerunner trilogy. One things for sure, I don't want to wait any longer for the second book.

No these are not "new" sizes these are the original halo rings. The ones we know of are a second batch, thus it isn't a retcon or anything as i have been saying cryptum is pure canon.

And since we know the sizes of the new and old rings, can somebody scale the holographic rings at 1:17? just so we can get their sizes.

I just made a couple of(very) quick Halos in sketchup. The outer ring is 30,000km in diameter but is otherwise identicle to a regular Halo.

WHose to say the rings at the ark weren't a different size than the ones medicant bias used (which were subsequently destroyed...)

the rings at the ark are the rings were currently know, all the others were destroyed and i assume MB's ring will be also.

Or that installation 5 has been stated as being the wrong size for the last 7 years or so

Yes I'm fairly young. No, that doesn't mean I'm automatically dumber than you or have less life experience, thats just generally the case. I am not your general case.

I think its just a typo, like the "110mm rotary cannon" featured on the Longswords.

It isn't, the older rings were bigger seeing how they had to go through development for about 10,000 years.

And by development i mean concepts and such, the rings themselves probably took under 5 years if that.

"You were weak... and gods must be strong."

There ARE two different ring sizes, as others have said. The older rings were a different size from the more numerous, newer rings.
