We are determined that before the sun sets on this terrible struggle our flag will be recognized throughout the world as a symbol of freedom on the one hand and of overwhelming force on the other.

For me, I cant see or accept the fact that the Flood could take over an entire Halo Ring.

I realize the power of the Flood, but to overcome the Forerunner Military, I cant imaging how that is possible.

The Halo Rings are super-fortresses, guarded by billions, if not trillions of sentinels, along with multiple elements of the Forerunner Military, including Naval assets.

How, how in the world does this happen?

Lurking like a baws. Totally. It's like totally important if I post because I barely post.

...

WHO EVEN LOOKS AT SIGNATURES ON BUNGIE.NET ANYWAY???

Well, can the fact that they could take over Monitors (See: 2401 Penitent Tangent) help them?

I really would like to know as well.

The original halo rings had thousands of lifeforms on them that were to be transported to the ark. the life also served as test subjects for the flood to test immunity and to study them.

Being said, it is possible that the current rings still have a decent amount of life on them that isn't shown during the games. So the flood could then infect them thus taking over the ring.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

If you think about it, its just a matter of having the flood take over the designated Oracle to really control the ring, the Oracle pretty much controls the Sentinels after all.

I'm going to refer to Cryptum and make an inference.

Mendicant Bias and the Flood army, full of the slowly massing/pooling infected Forerunners, attacked one of the most important worlds/meeting places of the Forerunners. With them came a Halo ring... the one Mendicant was supposed to use. With a MASSIVE Forerunner fleet inbound and Mendicant/Offensive Bias soon to commence the battle against eachother primarily, there was chaos all about. It's safe to assume that massive amounts of Forerunners got infected in this battle as they struggled out of the confusion- Especially the ones that had been trapped in the meeting area as their armor was under Mendicant's control.

With so many infected running around, the Forerunner fleet more than likely eventually met defeat- The Halos that didn't make it through the portal were likely either destroyed by the fleet or survived the fight. Assuming some survived, they were possibly, promptly infected by the Flood and the rings eventually made it to their original, predestined coordinates, awaiting the day they could be fired.

That's my on-the-spot theory.

while the sentinels are effective they are only effective towards infection forms as seen in halo CE.

Once the flood has grown to a sizable amount the combat forms can easily overrun the sentinels unless greater security forces are called. As seen in halo 2.

Assuming there was a orbiting fleet, the flood would take over the fleet via boarding. They would then use the ships to shoot at or ram the ring, effectively destroying it.
