There is a reason I am user ID 1 and my account creation date is before this site came online.

I think if you take the time to get to know the moderators, you will be able to help out much more effectively. SO it really is on the members to take a pro-active roll in *helping* the moderators. Now I say helping because you should never assume the role of a moderator. I have seen Shishka level 7 day bans for doing so. However, just go about it in the right way and everyone wins. People don't know you're helping out, and you don't get called a mod wannabe or demi-mod, and the mods are happier because you're helping them out. Just do it by using the gmail account or if you know some of the mods IM names, use those, they normally work much much easier then spamming a mods PM box, and then wondering if they're actually going to see it till it's already too late. I agree with dmbfan09 that moderators should provide information to people when they lock or blacklist, because how are you going to learn if they don't tell you what you did wrong. Plus if you turn out to be a multiple offender, then at least they did the right steps before you got perma-banned. I know that I got to know one of the mods better after he threatened to 3 day ban me, because he took the time to talk to me, and we worked things out. IF he hadn't, he'd probably have the wrong impression of me, and me of him. A little time invested could reep huge rewards!

We all use MSN. That's the most efficient way of contacting a mod. Whenever I'm on MSN I'm avaliable to be sent a link, even if I'm not moderating at that time. Unless I'm playing Myth or Marathon and I don't see when I get sent messages. Then I just turn off MSN!

SO GET MSN. Mine is lorenz@iinet.net.au, and I can hand out other mods emails with their consent. Then you don't need to use the PM system!

Because it's inefficient!

Wikipedia works.

Wikipedia also has auto-reversion built-in so that it's easy to undo damage. It's also rather demanding of server resources due to all the features it has to limit how much havoc griefers can wreak.

I know someone who had a wiki set up for the I Love Bees game... it quickly became very slown and soon went down for almost a month because the server couldn't handle the traffic; he had to find new servers and other folks to mirror the content before getting back online at all. Bungie.net gets that level of traffic every day.

-- Steve'd like to point out that he was against wide availability of moderating powers even before becoming a moderator, in case there's any thought of bias in the opinion. :)

Only the paranoid will survive!

Since when do members give mods tips on how to moderate? I think they can handle locking threads and such. At least I hope they can...
