Since I played Halo with a virus scanner running, it's always lagging, even in Single Player... Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

Can you post your system specs and what virus scanner you use?

OK,

System Specs

AMD Ahtlon MP 1600+

Ge-force 2 MX, 64MB

256MB RAM

I've always played Halo without any problems.

I've already tried re-install and repair by the way.

hm...your video card seems, fine, and your pc is ok, but maybe the virus scanner itself is the problem...wats the name/brand of the virus scanner?

It's AVG, but I don't think the virus scanner is the problem. I just played Halo once with too many programs running on the background, and since then it is always lagging. :S

Make sure you don't have any of those programs still running. You might also want to upgrade your computer because it's rather...crappy.

You simply just do not have hte resources to run both programs at once, Im running an overclocked XP3000, 1gb of ram, and a GeForce 6800XT and it still lags if I run a virus scanner and the game at the same time, unless your running a 64bit ot X2 AMD chip, don't expect to do much of anything if your playing Halo...

I know, but I played it with virusscanner running for only once. And since then it's always lagging... even if Halo is the only program running...

Your PC is at the low-end for Halo. You never want to run other programs in the background unless they are small and don't use a lot of processor or bandwidth. Running virus scanners , file sharing apps(limewire) or burning CDs while your playing Halo is a big no no. They suck your resources up and your computer is starting off behind anyways. Turn them off when you play Halo.

I understand, but I only did that for once and since then Halo is ALWAYS lagging. I've never experienced Halo with it's best graphics on this PC, but it was never lagging. Now it is, because I played, for only once, with some programs in the background...

try defrag you comp, if that dosnt work reinstall halo, if that doesnt work try system restore.

I reinstalled it a couple of times, but now if I try to start Halo I get this message:

Fatal Error. A problem occured initializing Direct3d. Hardware acceleration maybe disabled, please run DXdiag.

Hardware acceleration is enabled, I have the newest DirctX... what should I do?

go dl the video driver for your card, uninstall the existing ones, and install the new one.

if youve already got the newest uninstall it and install it again

do a search on google fo driver cleaner pro, install, and then restart in safe mode, run DC pro and delete all the nvidia drivers, restart system, install latest nvidia drivers and it should work flawlessly...

or you can just go to add/remove programs......

  • 01.22.2006 4:21 PM PDT

It's working again, but still lagging...

Could it be that despite having a virus program, you picked up a virus? Is your virus protection up to date?

Also, did you completely deinstall Halo before re-installing, or did you just install over the original?

Most games advise you to turn off your virus scanner before playing. My guess is that the active protection uses resources that your game needs.
