The End

‘The conscious is cancerous if allowed to linger’

"Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there."

I noticed this a few days ago, when I stumbled on an account that should have been deleted. I went back through accounts and having kept track the past few days no account seems to have been deleted if it was accessed after the 14th of April 2010. Either the system is very slow, the length of time it takes to be deleted has been extended, or account deletion has been disabled?

It seems odd. I don't know why it wouldn't delete it. Perhaps the system has changed without us knowing.

I noticed this too. The leader of OTK has been inactive for a year and a day now and still the account hasn't been deleted. I hope it never is deleted because he has a big history in our group and i would hate to see him go. Maybe they have changed the system in some way though. Hopefully an employee posts here.

I don't see the point in extending the account deletion time. Was the account Permma banned?

It never posted...

But I do find that strange, perhaps something to do with the most recent update?

Does anyone even read these?

I think a better question is, how did you even find that account?

I just don't think it deletes instantly once it hits the one year mark. I'm going to venture a guess and say it will be gone by the end of this week. If not, then something has changed.

Hmm, interesting. I assume the system is just going a little slow for some reason as there is no good reason to extend account deletion time.

I saw st3althsniper22 had made the account SteaIthsniper (steaith - capital I not L) while he waited for this account name to be available. When I looked up the account ~3-4 days ago I saw the date and realised it should have been deleted.

Does simply signing in count as being active? Will that change your "last active" date?

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

Disabled? I don't find it too probable myself, unless Bungie is moving sites. Even then though, it would be questionable to completely disable account deletion.

Moving a little slow? Perhaps. Extended amount of time before account deletion? A possibility.

Yeah. Accounts, as far as we used to know, were deleted a year after the last day the account had been signed in.

Hello! I'm Bunie.net's resident medical student (hell i'm sure there are more but I'm the only one who openly declares it!) I love my emblem, and I am periodically active.
I have a Twitter

I dont see the reason of why it could be changed, i assume there is a backlog?

Yax is a shining beacon in these dark times. You should all strive to be more like Yax.

I suppose this might mean that an exception wasn't made just for GameJunkieJim.

Perhaps, then, the system was changed to allow them to keep their nameplate, which would need them to keep their account.

I'm just throwing ideas out here. I have no idea. Your idea for extended time before deletion seems most likely.

I don't think having your account deleted removes your nameplate, I have friends who got the 7th column in Halo 3, then had their account deleted, but kept the nameplate.

I'm going with a glitch, or an extended amount of time.

Кланяються мені!

I would say the account is reserved for something but then I think they do that by permabanning it so I don't know...

Maybe the account was banned, then the account owner decided to stop coming on their 1 year anniversary and didn't come back when it expired?

I thought I remember Achronos saying that if you get a ban, your account deletion will be postponed until the day your ban was up?

Say I created an Account on 12.31.2009, Then I got banned on that say day for 10 days. I up and left Bungie.net that same day never to return. Since my ban expired on 1.09.2010, that would be the day my account would be auto deleted from inactivity. The day the ban expired.

I hope that made sense, its early on a Monday morning :/

Yeah but some of the accounts that have been inactive for over a year aren't banned. We are talking about those ones. You can still see their post history so we are unsure why they haven't been deleted.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I think it takes a VERY long time.

Maybe the time was extended?

  • 05.02.2011 7:49 AM PDT

Relax. I'd rather not piss this thing off.

-Master Chief

Possibly a bug in the system causing the accounts to take a longer time to be deleted.

  • 05.02.2011 7:51 AM PDT

Yeah funny you make this thread now. The creator of our group 'Owners of the Katana' should, I think, have had his account deleted just yesterday. We've been counting down for a while now and are surprised it's still up.

"Nothing in the 'Verse can stop me."

That's quite odd. That might explain why some employee account haven't been auto deleted.
