Ok, this may sound strange, but there is an old EGM article about Halo 2, it was like the first one to come out. Its like 20 pages long, and has a hell of a lot more then any of the garbage everyone is worked up about. It was when they still thought the game would come out in winter 2003. It has a ton of information, such as about the brute and combo attacks. Also it had information about the playable elites, the ATV, the four different warthog types (snow, land, water, jungle) the carbine, the brute's slug gun. Also, they got to visit Bungie Studios and view tons of different levels and tests. They saw the low grav levels in which if you shoot the ground, you fly up in the air. They also CONFIRMED SEVERAL THINGS OF WHICH THERE ARE ARGUMENTS ON THIS SITE
there is a:
100% chance the flood return, quoted by a Bungie Studios executive
100% chance of another Halo
80% chance of the return of 343

The Bungie folks also showed EGM the prophet way before anything was being talked about it. One of the coolest things was the talk about a level in which a huge dropship, "the size of a city block" with TONS of marines in it, dropped down to a covenant base. It said that the marines file out of the ship as covenant blast at them, "like a scene from Saving Private Ryan." Some marines rush in at the base, while other snipers take ATVs up the hill to a good sniping position. If you decide to go with the snipers, or go somewhere other than the main path, you will be given the same quality of action, such as the snipers saying unique things. This sounds kick ass to me.

One other thing is that the mag said that one half of the game would occur on earth and the other half would be a front on the covenant. You will be attacking space bases and gas giants, and finally the covenant homeworld.

Another interesting point is the covenant phantom, but I will make another post for that.

I don't believe anything unless it's in the Halo 2 FAQ.
Edge (pretentious videogame magazine - brilliant!) also had quite a lot a while ago.

The thing is though, they talked to a high Bungie Executive and all this info was given by him.

  • 05.10.2004 12:48 PM PDT

And a release date of Summer 2004 was given by a "Microsoft/Bungie insider". Don't read anything into it.

Try to scan it! Maybe the moderators will accept it, since it is so hella old. Would be interested to read through it. But are you sure bungie confirmed all of this (in 2002 I mean)?

100% chance the flood return, quoted by a Bungie Studios executive

I hope thats not ture. the flood was cool in the first halo but if they bring them back I will be HIGHLY disapointed in the game.

you better be ready for dissapointment then. The flood played such an intregal part in the story of the first halo game that I would be surprized if they played absolutely no role in the second...

But no-one expected the flood, that made it cool. Now everyone suspects the flood. so they are going to be annoying things to shoot at. I mean wippy! If thats the super big surprise bungie is not talking about I have just lost alot of faith in bungie's story telling ability.

The Flood will probably only be in a few levels, you go to the next halo, kill a few flood, then destroy it and play some more missions just Humans ans Covenant.

The bit about taking different paths, snipers or getting stuck in, sounds cool though don't you think?

No. sounds repetative. unless they are new flood, or a differant race on the ring.

but why would the forerunners put the flood on differant rings? it doesn't make sense to bring them back. unless a peace of the old halo.....wait a minute. prehaps there will not be a second ring just a peace of halo that the covie bring to earth....

I love all the people immediately negating the possibilities of this article. Yes, that EGM articly has a hundred times more info than anything released since- I especially love all the info on the Shadow.

For people who've bothered to follow Bungie over time, the EGM article has truly been the apex of information release so far. I wish I could find a copy for myself.

either way dude, they will change the flood somehow or put a new spin on them. Bungie will not give you re-hashed Halo 1 experiences on this game. They have been working so hard to make it like the best game ever...trust them.

Oh, and Lone Ranger...scan that EGM, a lot of people want to see it. Not because we dont believe you I just want to read it.

Bungie has promised new twists so the flood won't be a twist, I don't think. Most likely something else will surprise you.

Maybe the moon isnt the only low-gravity level... intriguing. "The only way to kill the flood is to starve them to death..." obviously halo didnt fire off, so the flood obviously arent destroyed. Instead, maybe the chunks of halo are still in orbit around that gas giant, and you go to it to eliminate the rest of the flood, one by one... *shudders*

The article said that there will be another Halo in the game, GS343 will return as he is important to the story, Captain Keyes will NOT return, and the flood will appear in Halo 2, though you probably won't fight them, they will be referenced or seen in the game. Kinda obvious that if theres another Halo, that the flood would somehow be involved or mentioned.

It's worth backordering because there are cool little Halo 2 sprite* battles and such.
It's awesome =)

*fyi sprites are like oldschool VG character graphics made with medium sized pixel blocks

oh, and if you want to see any old halo 2 articles, you should go here
http://halo.bungie.org/pressscans/
the EGM article from awhile back isn't on there though...
