Thats weird...in Halseys journal that came with the Limited edition of reach she writes that there was one spartan that stood out. one that was best at everything Spartan 117.

^She also says this in the birth of a spartan trailer. Backing up your point further.

I don't remember either of those lines.

She never said that he was the best at everything, just that he stood out. This was also most likely an observation made during training as well, and John is very different after the Covenant War than before.

Does this even matter any more? Opinion is all in opinion. For example in my honest opinion Noble 6 could NOT, in any way, take on MC... or any other noticable S-2 from the books BUT I can not prove it so I respect everyone elses opinion untill they prove me wrong. We should just agree to disagree... cliche and wont work, but hey, it's worth a shot.

Yo bro, what's good?

No one yell at me if this was said before since I didn't go through all ten pages, but Chief was a Spartan II, while Noble 6 was a Spartan III. Spartan IIs were trained better and had better equipment, while the IIIs were used for suicide missions mainly, and had poorer training and cheaper equipment. Even though the IIIs were made poorly, Noble 6 was part of Noble team, the special operations team of the IIIs which made them the best of their kind. But technically speaking, MC was better trained.

Spartan III's were trained to fight the Covenant, they were better trained but given the crappy gear.

Put Spartan II's in their position, same training but crappy gear and they would offer the same outcome as if a team of Spartan III's were sent on a suicide mission.

Same thing for Spartan III's send them on less suicial missions and they would be able to fight with more experiance in fighting instead of being suicide troops. Hell I can argue that they could do the job better then Spartan II's.

Kurt improved the Spartan II training when he and Mendez trained the Spartan III's....

You know what, I can kind of agree with the fact that the IIIs also had the will to fight from the beginning since most of them were orphans wanting revenge, while the IIs were abducted, confused, six year olds. But in the end the majority of people will say MC is the best because of the emotional attachment to him from all three games. If we played as Noble 6 for the first three and MC for the last, then what do you think the title of this thread would be called?

I couldn't agree with you more, even if I tired. Noble 6 is just a new phase of HAlo so everyone has gone pro-S-III's.

I was pro-Spartan III's ever since Ghosts of Onyx came out, and most people here still think that Spartan II's are infinitely superior to Spartan III's and that Spartan III's are garbage cause they died.

It never said that, it said that Kurt's team won a great deal of the time because of Kurt's six sense for smelling out traps.

Green Team was a United Nations Space Command small infantry team.
It was composed of SPARTAN-IIs led by Kurt-051 in training exercises. They were known to often beat the famous Blue Team because of Kurt's "sixth sense" for danger.

While they did beat Blue Team most of the time, they did so because of Kurt and his uncanny ability to smell out traps.

Um, do you even remember First Strike? He went back to Reach found quite a few Spartans surviving there as well as Dr. Halsey. So he knows he not the last one, and Spartans don't get choked up the same way us normal humans do at loss. Being silent is just Chief's character, he is truly just a man of few words.

Until you procure proof he is silent just "because he is cool" as you so delightfully put it, and there really is no emotional impact on the things he has gone through, that of everything he is done, everything he has seen, everything that has happened to him in his fretfully war-torn life, has had absolutely no emotional impact on him what so ever, I'll take that as your personal opinion. Why that is your opinion I have no idea, because as I recall in Fall of Reach, as Master Chief watches the coffins of his Spartan brothers being jettisoned into space, he feels as though a part of him is being torn away, or something along those lines.

You see. He feels. He feels. He is not devoid of emotion. I am 100% convinced that by the end of Halo 3, he is not the same he was when the war started. I guarantee it. You don't come out of something like that without scars. Every soldier has scars. I'm tired of people treating Master Chief like an inhuman monster, he is not so, he is super-human, super-human, meaning he is still human, and he will still be emotionally effected by the deaths of his SPARTAN brothers, even if in First Strike he found others. It doesn't change the fact of Sam's death, Grace's death, and many others. Their images of them dying will be bored into his skull for the rest of his life. Soldiers are always effected by the deaths of their comrades. Just because he is conditioned, doesn't mean he is devoid of emotions.

Just as a "P.S.", if he were some inhumane killing machine, who's only goal in life was to take life, I would offer him no respect, no human sympathy, no emotional attachment, and I would not care if he were to die, should he die, but I would not give him his due, no matter how much he had done, because what is the point of protecting humanity if you lose your humanity in the process? There is none. You are no longer someone of value, and you are an inferior organism, no matter how many augmentations or genetic enhancements, or "luck" you may have.

  • 05.08.2011 11:12 PM PDT

He was the overall best spartan...so yeah, he was exceptional, just not exceptional in one specific little thing.

I'm 23, I have a house, dog, girlfriend, job and I have no interest in any fanboyism so if you're thinking about sending me a childish PM, don't be surprised when I don't call back.

I hate that mentality, technically the Spartan III's would be better soldiers than the Spartan II's in every regard. They were put through Spartan training by an experienced Spartan as well as the usual team (minus Halsey of course).

They also had more advanced augmentation that could well have made them more efficient. Also even though SPI armour isn't as strong as MJOLNIR it gives them a different strength in that they are cloaked.
