He doesn't have sh1t in-universe. The Halo video game doesn't exist in the Halo-verse.

But for people that have only played the games, he is the greatest Spartan to ever live.

Which is a slap in the face to the guys who think Fred is number 1 of the Spartans. While all evidence says he was always second.

I'll give ya something that isn't an opinion,a quote that was ignored by anti-master chief guys.

Thus came a "Demon"-a hero, a soldier, a man. One

Spartan above all others; equal but for one defining

factor-one immeasurable advantage. Like his brothers

and sisters, he was trained to fight, to win, a master of the

latest weapons of war. But Spartan-117, the Master Chief,

had one intangible asset few others possessed-luck.

Added to an unmatched drive to win-whether it be a

simple game, or heated combat-Spartan-117's uncanny

combination of finely honed skills and unprecedented

good fortune made for the ultimate warrior in a battle

against impossible odds.

Never one to give in, never one to relent, the Master

Chief, and each of his fellow Spartans, did more than

engage the enemy; they delivered hope-with each burst

of gunfire, with every battle won.

This poem is from Halo Evolutions, written by a 343I employ.

It confirms the Chief is above all the others because of his following talents.

He's the ultimate warrior in battle too, seems like other spartans won't do better then him in a situation like the Halo trilogy.

I also want to point out that master chief is the only known Spartan succesfully beating Hunters alone.

Fred was knocked out by a Hunters fuel rod,and was on ground before being saved by the others(ghosts of onyx)

MC was hit by a fuel rod too,but he got up and killed two hunters(Halo The Flood).Several times.

You're using a poem, which has absolutely no canonical value, to back your argument.

  • 05.07.2011 8:12 AM PDT

Revan, I feel as I must point these things out.

Chief was NEVER hit by a hunter's fuel rod that I can remember.

Half the hunters he fought he got lucky and somebody else killed one/both.

Again, you are going "Because we have never seen it, therefore it never happened/could never happen!"

It happened in the Flood:

pg 105
The Spartan swiveled around ,and heard a warning tone as Hunters weapon discharged .Burning energy smashed into him.The shade shook under the force of incoming fire as the Master Chief clenched his jaw and forced himself to bring the targeting reticle down into target. His shield bled energy and a shriek energy alarm.

pg 143:
The first blast struck him square in the chest and sent him tumbling .The second shot was stopped by a thicktrunked tree.A trickle of blood pooled in the corner of his left eye.He shook his head to clear his blurred vision and rolled on his left.
A third shot kicked up a plume of soil where he had lain just seconds before.

-No he did it with skills,it's still impressive that he defeated several Hunters alone.Yes other times like in the entire Halo 3,he was helped. But in Halo CE and Halo 2 i think he usually killed them alone, like when Hunters ambushed him with Zuka.

-Valid point, but just pointed that out because chief is more then average, other times even two squads of spartans couldn't beat a Hunter pair even with Lindas sniping skills.

You're using a poem, which has absolutely no canonical value, to back your argument.

Why not? It's included in a canonical book,so it is.

Sure that quote was never said in the Halo verse, but same is with Halo waypoint articles and the encyclopedia, they are still canon.

The poems aren't a part of anything. You're a fool if you believe them to have some sort of canon standing. They're just poems, nothing more. They have no dates. There is no context. There is no place for it to fit in the universe. It has no author in-universe. It's just there. It's a bonus to the book. Just something interesting to read.

  • 05.07.2011 8:43 AM PDT

Actually, Truth and Reconciliation, the Sergeant killed the second hunter.

Silent cartographer, the first hunter was killed by a trigger happy grunt in the security center. That caused the other to be sent off-balance, resulting in Chief killing it.

Oh it does,it's a 343I employ who writes things about Halo in a poetic form, because it's poetic doesn't means it's non canon. In that logic Halo waypoint articles aren't canon either because they are voiced by 343I guys.

It happened several times that Bungie or 343 employees comment on something about the fiction, their word is still canon.

Halo canon policy states books are canon ,poets are included in books so they have truth in it or else that poet was pointless as hell, stating otherwise proves you just can't accept things you don't like.

Will killed a hunter with his hands. He wins.

  • 05.07.2011 10:38 AM PDT

To be honest, when I first saw all this in the weekly update I thought 2 things.
#1- there is an actual legendary ending but,
#2- No matter what anyone does,(kill all the bobs, hit all switches etc) that until the "time" mentioned in "There'll be another time..." is reached there won't be a legendary ending.

The weekly update by bungie has slowed my hardcore search for what unlocks the legendary ending.

It is said througout the Halo lore that Master chief is the best. When they first selected him, they tossed a coin in the air and he grabbed it right outta the air! When he did an assault course he punched a falcon missile out of the sky!

Noble 6 fell down to Reach with a re-entry pack.....and almost died....Master Chief fell back to Earth with nothing....and was ready to rock and roll!

Luck was often the saving grace of John.....although some of us call that fate!
Wrong. Go back to Sierra 117 and you will see a piece of the foreruner ship, the Dreadnaught, after he crashed back into the Earth. He ripped it off the Dreadnaught so he can se it as a heat shield. Noble 6 somehow survived (AS A SPARTAN III!)re-entry into Reach. The only reason I think Noble 6 survived is because slip space can alter time. Now IDK how that would work, but that is my only reasonning.

He had a re-entry pack strapped to his back, although I wouldn't give the credit to that, seeing how they are prone to failing and sending the user to a horrible death in space.

They never said it was canon though. We aren't accepting it, not because we don't like it, but because it is ludicrous to bring poems into the argument to back your statements. I actually laughed a bit, no offense.

Sure, I'll agree with that. Have you read the books? (And I mean besides the one Master Chief plays a major role in.)

Also, do you know anything about Noble Six's background?

Is John the best at predicting when a trap or ambush is up ahead? Nope.

Is he the best sniper? Nope.

Is he the fastest runner? Nope.

Is he the smartest? Nope.

Is he the strongest? Nope.

Is he the biggest? Nope.

How can he be the best if he really doesn't excel in any other category against the other Spartans?

Okay, I'm about to have some fun with you.

Is Michael Jordan the best at predicting when a trap or double team is up ahead? Nope.

Is he the best three point shooter? Nope.

Is he the fastest dribbler? Nope.

Is he the smartest? Nope.

Is he the strongest? Nope.

Is he the biggest? Nope.

How can he be the best if he really doesn't excel in any other category against the other basketball players?

...oh wait.

Sure, I'll agree with that. Have you read the books? (And I mean besides the one Master Chief plays a major role in.)

Also, do you know anything about Noble Six's background?

So, we're just going to disregard the highest level of canon in this discussion about exceptional Spartans. Really?
