Everytime I try to play Combat Evolved, it plays the music but only shows my desktop. When I try to exit the program, it comes up with an exception which then disappears.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Intel Q6600 3.0ghz
4gb DDR21066 2x2gb RAM
Geforce GTX 260 Core 216 650/1100

could you list your computers hardware specs please?

Also, some people had a "similar" issue to the one you're describing. Usually if you have Anti-Aliasing forced on all applications or just Halo 1, it can cause the games menu to not appear after the main videos. If nothing appears at all though then that's definitely a problem I've never heard of o.O

What does the error/exception message say? Does the error message say this:
"A problem occurred initializing Direct3D.
Hardware acceleration maybe disabled, please run DXDIAG"

Or does it say this: "Gathering Exception Data"

Or maybe this: "Cannot allocate required memory. Some application has loaded where Halo wants to be located"

Look at this Microsoft support article here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/830704 and see if you are receiving any of those error messages.

As said above it would help to post your computer specs.

The bungie.net community is the halo PC community that is renowned for being unbelieveably sucky.

Two good possibilities:

1. you are forcing anti-aliasing, so turn this to "application preference" in your nVidia control panel

2. the game is trying to start using a resolution that your monitor does not support

Hey, I'm TetriS/r4v3n/Ryx. I've been modding Halo 1 pc since late 2008-2009, and playing Halo 2 Vista since summer of 2010. If you need any help with Halo 1 modding, just ask; I haven't modded in a while but I remember most of it.

I'm always up for a h2v game; message i4Ni TetriS and I'll get back to you.

Are you using the stock ui and maps?
