...but it seems that the halo series is more or less an extention of the halo series...
Not to be an ass, but of course it is (I understand what you are talking about though). All of the little tidbits from Marathon that are in Halo are there to make the oldschool Bungie fans giggle with delight.

Edit: No I don't think that they should remake the Marathon series. Too many remakes don't catch they pure awesomeness eminating from the original.

Looking back on some of my favorite gaming memories, the marathon series comes to mind. Just an idea, but it seems that the halo series is more or less an extention of the halo series, of course, i have determined this just by looking at key inclusions in halo. EX: Look closely at Keyes' patch, and you will see the marathon symbol. But back to the original topic, do you think it's a good idea to re-develop the marathon series for the Xbox?

I have made a couple of topics about things in Halo and Marathon that are the same or have connections. Halo is for me a big mix of ideas from movies and games like Starship Troopers and Aliens 2 and Marathon and a tiny bit of Half-Life. I keep seeing things in real life that has connections with Marathon or Halo like for example Osiris' (the skater shoes) logo looks a little like marathon logo except that it's upside down. And when i see Aliens 2 I se Sgt. Johnson (in Halo) as Sgt. Apone (In Aliens). Well I've given these excamples so many times that I think people are getting tired of me it's just a feeling I get...

The thread seems strangely familiar, like a dream.... :)

My vote's in that thread, but to reiterate: I personally think that Bungie'd be better off going on and creating new games instead of trying to revisit an old one, and risk it turning into a rehash. Onward and upward, to the next new thing! (Unless they want to do a direct port to a comperable platform; Marathon on N-Gauge, for instance.)

-- Steve can't get on anybody's case about the thread repetition, except Bungie's. Where's that pesky search feature?

If they wre to rerelease the series they have 2 options;
1) rerelease the games as they are
2) make them new again, spending vast amounts of time and money to get it right, and employing several of us hardcore Marathon fans to help them get it right... even if it is their game, they still might stuff it.

Yes, but no redevelopment. The Marathon trilogy is perfect the way it is. If they were to re-release the Marathon Trilogy Set, but make it compatible for both PCs and Macs, that would be a genius move and I would be very very happy.

I'd be fine with all new technology as long as they can keep on par with the amazing level design and storytelling style. You can use the UT2k4 engine and make it amazingly spiffy as long as the story remains the same as told through terminals. It would lose some of its vintage feeling, but that's why it would be a re-release and not an entirely new game. It would also lose some of the disabilities that gave a certain flavor and appreciate to games of the time... for example, with a new engine there'd undoubtedly be jumping, ducking, leaning, etc and so forth. Even the simple addition of a crosshair would be a setback from what Marathon was.

Would you be ok with;

* Newer graphics engine?
* Replacing the sprites with models?
* Hi-Rez textures?
* Improved AI?

I know that alot of those choices are possible and/or reality with AlephOne, but I am wondering what is "negotiable", if there were a revised version.

People are simply too fickle. If it wasn't improved, people would complain. If it was, ForceMorph would complain. You can't please everyone.

A debate like this has no right or wrong opinion.
As long as it's still Marathon, I don't care.

Such is the sacrifice for advancement... But I must say, having played teh Marathon;Rampancy mod for Unreal Tournament and getting to play multiplayer games against bots using all the original weapons and even some of the maps... It is too good not to have.

We’ve watched while the stars burned
Out, and creation played in reverse.
The Universe freezing in half-light.
Once I thought to escape.
To end a master, step out of the
Path of collapse. Escape would make us God.
Yet I cannot help but remember one enigma,
A hybrid, elusive destroyer.
This is the one mystery I have not solved.
The only element unaccounted for.

Ah, do you not trust Bungie at all? Were they to re-release Marathon, I am positive that they would include an "old school" feature, which would be the original Marathon. Or they would simply give you the option of disabling all of the features that you dislike.

This is Bungie. Those who do not trust Bungie are blasphemers.

Absolutely not to a remake. But I am completely in favor of a re-release. They should port it to Mac OS X. I am opposed to putting Marathon onto PC, but considering who owns Bungie these days, I guess it would be more or less unavoidable. Just as long as they also re-released Forge and Anvil. I need copies of those.

Bungie should re-release the Marathon series. I would love to play them, even if they are a bit old. Why not modernize them for modern PCs, or sell them as a collection on Xbox or PC for a budget price? I'd buy it. Oh, and it should be the original versions of the games, not some crappy remakes.

1) Microsoft bought them and rushed the release of Halo.
2) I would very much pfhear you if you had a shotgun when I ain't got one.
3) If they ever had a Marathon convention put together, I pity the Halo fan that goes and says something stupid like "Why does everyone think Marathon is so great? Halo's graphics are much better." I also pity the janitors. It would take weeks to get the blood off the walls.
Pfhor) Your a little pessimistic, aren't you? There's eventually going to be something better than Marathon. Bungie will see to that. Or if you truly ddoubt Bungie so much now, then someone will.

and since I can't think of anything else to say, let's skip to seven.
7) Seven is darker.

I hope those references didn't sound too cheesy.

That's what I've been saying all along! Re-do the graphics, physics, and AI, but KEEP THE TERMINALS AND LEVEL DESIGN. And add in new features such as crosshairs and such, but give us the option of disabling them.

Alright ForceMorph, what would be the problem with that?

It probably wasn't smart to invoke ForceMorph's wrath like that, was it? Oh well.

Bungie shouldn't remake it. If it was a direct port, then maybe. Even then, it couldn't be for any modern console. I don't think many xbox owners would be able to appreciate a 2.5 dimention game. Then again, someone did have the balls to do an oldschool game for the Xbox (Metal Slug 3)...Anyone here know how that game did, sales wise?
