My Grandfather was a Desert Ranger, my Father was a Veteran Ranger in the NCR. My father was killed by Caesar's Legion and they took my Brother. It's now my responsibility to uphold the mantle of the Rangers and avenge my Father and find my Brother.

I started reading the Cole Protocol the other day and that book seems totally uncanon! First off Jackals HELPING humans? No way! Theres more....but i'll post it later.

Oh yeah and the Spartan on the front cover's helmet looks like the default one from Reach.

WUT?

I mean, why are there Jackals helping humans in the colony of Rubble and the Spartan's helmet on the front cover looks like Mark V [B]

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

I loved The Cole Protocol. My favorite Halo book.

I think the Jackals helping the humans is a little too much though...

It's an uneasy peace between the humans and Kig-Yar to say at the least, and I assure you that it doesn't last very long.

Plus, don't you want something a bit more interesting and different for once? We've never seen Kig-Yar and Humans actually getting along. And they're not regular UNSC, they're Rebels anyway.

WARNING SPOILER ALERT

The jakels make a temporary alliance with the rebel humains. because the jakels fell low on the covenant list. It does not take long the jakels are not allowed to have slipspace drives on there ship so they made a deal with the humain to give them weapons and stuff for slipspace drivers

"You were weak... and gods must be strong."

It's perfectly in line with canon. The Kig-Yar have ALWAYS been a shifty race and are described as not giving too much care or thought about the Covenant itself- only personal gains are on the majority of Kig-Yar's agenda.

Also, the armor seen on the cover was a slightly artistic interpretation of the Mark IV, and may or may not be personalized for Grey Team. Either way, it's still not Mark V or Mark VI.

Sangheili Major: "Brute ships. Staggered line! Shipmaster, they outnumber us, three-to-one!"

Rtas 'Vadum: "Then it is an even fight. All Cruisers, fire at will! Burn their mongrel hides!"

This!

I read the Cole Protocol back in December as my first Halo book. I loved it and it will probably stay as a favourite as I read more of the Halo books.

Not to be an ass, but can you finish the damn book before saying things aren't canon. the book explains everything, i think the only issue that was brought up in the book was thel
's rank.

  • 05.05.2011 6:26 PM PDT

Finish the book before you go calling it non-canon. It is clearly explained later why the Jackals are working with the Rubble. Plus the Jackals have never been truly strict adherents to Covenant beliefs. Jackals have always been about profits and what they can get out of a situation, think Jack Sparrow, only less comical and trustworthy.

Personally I love Cole Protocol and it's one of my favorites of the Halo books.

Well you do know that the Jackals aren't technically part of the Covenant, right? They're paid mercenaries. They're compensated for serving under the Hierarchs. They take no stake in the Covenant religion. It's not at all unbelievable that they would be helping humans if they got something out of it. but keep reading.

plus the jackals aren't totally committed to the covenant there more like mercenaries.

In fact, the only thing that makes them more members of the Covenant than guns for hire is simply the fact that the Covenant would have killed them off if they didn't accept the offer.
