It depends.
If the map was BR's only then it determines who has a better BR, so your opponent beat you in that respect.
However, MLG 1v1s on Guardian can be a bit of a coin-toss. If there is considerable difference in the two players' skill then the better player should usually win. However if both players are highly skilled or just of similar skill then it usually comes down to who knows how to play 1v1s better. If you can time camo and sniper, know the spawns, and are able to out-think your opponent 1 on 1 then you will usually win.
However it is wrong to say that 1v1s don't mean anything, because they have just as much strategy as any team gametype. I mean, team games at a high level usually come down to which side controls the power weapons and spawns too doesn't it?
1v1s don't show how good you are at working with a team, but they show how good you are individually.
The guardian MLG game was a 2 v 2 :) but both players were apparent 50's.
I understand what you're saying, but doesn't individual skill mean little in a team gamer? Even in lone wolves there isn't many 1 v 1 battles. His BR was better than mine, but I'm more commonly a support player and pride myself on assists especially in MLG but I guess every players different.
I appreciate your opinion and input, thanks!
That is very true, and was what I was trying to say. 1v1s don't mean anything in MM because it's a team game.
In my opinion I am a pretty good 1v1 player. I rarely lose 1v1s, yet I get destroyed in team games by the people I beat 1 on 1. It's a very different skill set.
1v1s aren't going to help you rank up though, so I suggest getting better at both, so you can beat tryhards in team games, then also dump on them in 1v1s =)
