Subject: Do 1 v 1's really determine skill?

Hi guys,

So, basically some guy was giving a lot of abuse after a game because we steaked them in Team Mythic, I told him that he lost and should just deal with it, he called me a nerd and I said "Well, you're the one raging over a game" he said "I'm not a nerd I left school at 16 to drink, smoke and slap b1tches".. seriously.

Anyway I got about 100 invites to 1 v 1 because I'm a scrub etc etc, I eventually gave in and joined him. The map was construct and the game type was... well, nothing but BR's, no weapon or equipment pick ups and no grenades.

He beat me by 6 kills on his host, not that the host was that bad but still worth mentioning.

Anyway my friend invites me back to a game and the random kid joined again and started giving more abuse and challenging us to a two vs two. This time we had host, we picked the map; MLG Guardian and game type; MLG Team Slayer. We won by 30+ kills and the guy goes -13, he starts continues to say I was host etc and got r@ped 1 v 1.

My question to you is which one of the two games would you have rather won if you could only choose one. inb4 both games.
Do you think 1 v 1's require skills?

U Mirin?

Why don't you do any work on your chest or legs or something? You look like a cartoon character.

1v1s don't determine Halo skill

they determine who's better at a 1v1 (meaning who can sneak around the map, camp, whore power weapons, etc)

I always lol when people say "1v1 ME KID"

I win 1v1s more often than not, and I still hate them. But I do admit they are fun to do when you get on a low account and poop on some bad kid and then 1v1 him after he begs for it, only to poop on him again.

Yes they do, but not on Guardian. That's for campers. Real players play 1v1 on MLG Pit snipers/brs no custom.

I would usually say the same but there were no power weapons, just BR's. Not even grenades. Everything was disabled. I agree though, it's annoying when people lose in a team game and then request the 1 v 1.

The game was on construct, no weapons but BR's. The guardian game was the 2 v 2.

It depends.

If the map was BR's only then it determines who has a better BR, so your opponent beat you in that respect.

However, MLG 1v1s on Guardian can be a bit of a coin-toss. If there is considerable difference in the two players' skill then the better player should usually win. However if both players are highly skilled or just of similar skill then it usually comes down to who knows how to play 1v1s better. If you can time camo and sniper, know the spawns, and are able to out-think your opponent 1 on 1 then you will usually win.
However it is wrong to say that 1v1s don't mean anything, because they have just as much strategy as any team gametype. I mean, team games at a high level usually come down to which side controls the power weapons and spawns too doesn't it?

1v1s don't show how good you are at working with a team, but they show how good you are individually.

1v1s don't require skill, because when the opponent gets sniper/camo/rockets/whatever, a smart player will hide and attempt to jump them because there's not really another way to beat it.

The guardian MLG game was a 2 v 2 :) but both players were apparent 50's.

I understand what you're saying, but doesn't individual skill mean little in a team gamer? Even in lone wolves there isn't many 1 v 1 battles. His BR was better than mine, but I'm more commonly a support player and pride myself on assists especially in MLG but I guess every players different.

I appreciate your opinion and input, thanks!

I don't mean to be rude but did you read the OP? There were no weapons but BR's so no one camped anything (except him crouching round corners). But yeah the majority of 1 v 1's end in that way.

I would definitely have rather won the 2v2. I know my individual skill is not that good and I tend to lose any 1v1 not on Octagon, but I pride myself on my doubles skill. If I had lost to those 2 kids 2v2 I would probably have cut myself lol.

Oh and they were not both 50s. If one of them was I'm guessing they were in Swat.

Oh and Dailure, would you be up for a friendly 2v2 sometime in June?

Gamertag: That Laggy Noob

1v1 on Octagon, Onslaught, Amplified = yes

1v1 on Guardian = no

On maps like Guardian people never challenge and always camp.

The guy on the main account had some skill but the guest could have been a 40 at best.
Yeah I find it's more impressive to win a team game especially by some much after loosing a 1 v 1 :)

And yeah, just add me or whatever, but me and Bye biwinning aren't exactly a great double team, we work great together in Team Slayer and MLG but we struggle in doubles.

That is very true, and was what I was trying to say. 1v1s don't mean anything in MM because it's a team game.

In my opinion I am a pretty good 1v1 player. I rarely lose 1v1s, yet I get destroyed in team games by the people I beat 1 on 1. It's a very different skill set.

1v1s aren't going to help you rank up though, so I suggest getting better at both, so you can beat tryhards in team games, then also dump on them in 1v1s =)

  • 05.05.2011 4:24 PM PDT

Well there's no 1v1 playlist. So IDK.

Yeah cool cool, it'll be in a while though (like June) because of exams and sheeeet. I just remembered I had wanted to play you for some time lol. I'll add you sometime off Nemesis Haze :)

I honestly don't even think 1v1s apply. If someone is butthurt that you beat them in a team game like TS or TD and send you rage messages about 1v1s, then just reply "I don't want to 1v1, if I wanted to 1v1 I wouldn't be playing [the playlist you played them in], I'd be doing Gamebattles 1v1s".

or something to that effect

That's like beating someone in a car race and having them go "YEAH WELL RACE ME ON A BIKE, THEN WE WILL SEE WHO'S GOT MORE SKILL"

It's just a retarded thing people do when they get mad over losing.

Also Dailure that guy filehshared the 1v1. I watched it and his BR is absolutely horrible, it's very shaky. I don't know how you didn't win but either his host was bad for you or you just had some very bad fails. But yeah, I can tell from his gameplay and what you told us that he's just a tryhard kid who brags about 'being MLG' yet probably hasn't made it past a 20 in the playlist. He would be nothing without his host because he was swiping his BR all over the place.

But yeah, I don't know how he managed to beat you but your BR looked pretty bad that game lol ( not trying to be a dick either just sayin ) =)

1v1s only show how good someone is at a 1v1

There are plenty of people who run 1v1s and FFA who can barely play a team game.

"I would rather betray the world than let the world betray me." - Cao Cao

I think 1v1 BR requires about the least ammount of skill possible, it is stripped down to the barest form.

Team work and juggleing of weapons/grenades and objectives is where the most skills comes into Halo.

Sad thing, team objective is normally the least played and BR's or team match is the most played.

Sign of the times, the masses are stupid.

Team Objective is true Halo and where skill is most tested. It has the most factors to work around. It's not just "Kill the man".

That is incredibly arrogant. The 'masses' like slayer more than objective because there will always be a favoured gametype. Just because you like objective more doesn't mean anyone who doesn't is stupid.

Stop being an ignorant prick.
