As an Aussie, I've never been to E3.

In light of the new *exclusive* fanfest this year, I was wondering; how many people have been to the fanfests over the years, and to E3 in general? (and yes, I know they used to be held independently of each other, but, please, just humor me :P ) What was the general opinon regarding both events?

And, is E3 really as tacky as they say it is, or is that just a rumour, disseminated by jealous and jaded journalists, attempting to lock the gates to their cotton-candy filled wonderland, just so they never have to share?

You know, the pizza was really good... however...

they turned off the air conditioning, and it got incredibly hot and uncomfortable. No sooner did it get hot, then the cold drinks ran out. Not good being around a bunch of sweaty, HALO-frenzied guys. One battle hardend veteran of geek-outs like me gets used to the 'Nerd-de-toilette' after being to such conventions as Comic-Con, but I dont know if the 'voice of Cortana' appreciated the lack of deodorant usage. Oh well, that comes with the territory. I also got my arse kicked due to never touching a S-controller before. Being used to 'The Duke' controller set on 'southpaw' (us lefties appreciate whenever a game company acknowlegdes us... damn you right-hand-only Nintendo 'Power Glove'. Bane of my existence!!!!)

... anyway. It was an all-out freakin' blast!!! I was just trying to make it seem horrible so you wouldnt feel like you were missing anything. HA! YOU SHOULD HAVE SOLD YOUR LEFT NAD TO BE THERE! The mowning of the fans who recieved just a copy of 'Fall of Reach' from the raffle was PRICELESS! "And another mug and...(wait for it) a COPY OF 'FALL OF REACH'! Oh, you lucky dog."

I have to say there also was some glee that Microsoft left on the other Kiosks of their games EXCEPT STEEL BATTALION ONLINE! Damn you bastards all to hell! The line for that one was quite long...

I used to feel jealous... Now I don't know what I feel....

But I do know I need a shower *shivers*.

But, it sounds really cool. Power to the fans! :) Did you end up going to the actual E3 event at all?

Heh, I... WAS... JOKING... everyone there was relatively stank-free. But yah, I did go and it rocked. Too bad it ended waaaaaaaay too soon. I think they should extend it another hour or at lest have it resume somewhere else afterwards... like a strip joint. Man, now THAT would be a FANFEST!

Hmmm...
Maybe, with the invite system being used this year, they ARE! (Yes Bungie, I know all of your so-called "tru7h"s!)

Looks like you went the wrong year CENO... bad luck! :P

Now, where'd that scalper go? I still have one left for this year....

muAHAHAHA-ha! But I live in Hollywood! and the Staples Center and convention center are right DOWN THE STREET! Ahhh... I bask in the glow that is your envy.

Ohhh... that's really harsh. Sorry, but I had to pull that 'full house' on you. But look at it this way. I went to E3 last year and saw basically everything you have. We both, a year later STILL HAVNT PLAYED HALO 2!!! *grumble* *grumble*

Regarding Fanfest:

I had my first last year, and let me tell you, it was something else. Yes, as Ceno pointed out, it got awfully warm when the fans were shut off, but in the long run, the heat was no big deal. All the Bungie employees you're used to just reading in magazines or web articles were there, more than happy to chat it up. Bungie prepared a special grab bag with stickers, and even an exclusive limited edition version of the 2" master Chief action figure. The Bungie Store was there as well, selling all the good stuff. A special RvB movie was played, as well as a documentary, we got to see the Halo 2 demonstration first hand, play Halo PC before anyone else, and play Halo with the guys that made it. There was a prize giveaway, a question and answer session, and a quiz for who was the most Bungie hardcore. There was even a small group of us that got to see Jaime, Halo 2's lead designer, screw around in the Halo 2 demo.

All in all, it was definately an awesome experience, one that I'd tell anyone and everyone who loves Bungie and Halo to try to attend.

Regarding E3:
This year will be my third E3. Each time I go, I feel overwhelmed for the first hour that I'm in the convention center. There's a ridiculous amount of stuff to check out! Plus, the publishers go all out for the advertising. Everywhere you go (Except Kentia Hall, heh) there are lights and sounds and plasma screens playing trailers. It's an incredible experience, and a lot of fun. If you're eligible to attend, I totally recommend it.

However, if you're eligible, and you haven't registered, yet, you missed the April 10th deadline and now you gotta pay at least $300 for an exhibition pass.

Just hanging out with the Dead or Alive bikini girls was fun for me. (the secret is to say you only 'dabble' in games,... but in reality, you are an executive for some FILM production company) *nudge, nudge* ;)

I've been a Bungie fan from way back in the Myth days, and I've always wanted to be able to go. Unfortunately I just don't have the cash for airfairs, accomodation, etc.

Still, I can experience it vicariously, and that's just as good, right?

...right?
