My ideas are as follow. Image signatures, and a rep type of system. Oh god, Bungie stated those ideas are not being implimented are they? Well, I overhauled the ideas of "freedom" and replaced them with "controlled freedom", to help keep the fourm from being filled with bad images and rep boosters.

My first idea of image signatures lowers the types of images to a select few. First off, screenshots already on Bungie.net could be used, along with appropiate text. This way, you could express your gamertag creatively, and still not have to see people's hairy bottoms every page. These could include pics of Zanzibar, like on the top of the fourm.

Another image signature idea of mine is slightly different. It would be a box with your logo and highest rank. It would then show the numbers and symbols. It wouldn't be an image signature, but at least it's a higher level of customization for people with linked gamertags.

For the "rep" idea, how about this: fourms are rated by people with a certain number of posts, a certain number of months on the fourms, and on if the moderators trust them or not. This way, 200-400 users could each vote on fourms. If a fourm needs locking, their votes could acculmulate and either raise the attention of the mods, or lock it. This way if a mod isn't on, the trusted users could lock threads that are innappropiate. They should not be influenced by opinion of thread, but on the appropriateness of the content.

Finally, how about different color backgrounds. A user could pick black, red or the standard blue background. That way, the fourm isn't always this monotonous blue.

Locking forums eh?
How about we start with New Mombasa?
Any takers?

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

Pretty much the only idea I liked was the Background, but that one isn't even that great. It would be nice to have different skins, but I would rather have a search.

Bad idea. Nuber of posts counts for nothing and only encourages spam, which is why the removed it. The only kind of rep that you mentioned that really can't be abused is if a mod trusts them, though I doubt the mod keeps track of every single member here...

Even if it were just a choice from the themes used in groups would be good and could add a new wind to the forums' looks.

That would be neat. But then again, each header image for each forum would need to be changed. So if you picked a new theme color, it would have to load the new headers also.

Not a happy Forum ninja that would make.

(Like Communism though, it is a good idea on paper, but most likely not in practice)

Hey man, better red than dead ;)

Anyways, I'll say that a private customiation system would be a good idea. Such as, where you can change the forum "template" (i.e colour, design) and have options to sort posts & threads (i.e only show posts with replies within 24 hours, only show threads less than a week old). However any "public" system would be hard to manage with this many people online. Any system where individulas are given privelages (other than the necessary requirement of moderators) over others is going to be riddled with problems.

I find that thanks to the moderators, the forums (at least, most of them) are kept clean, and if normal members would just contribute to solving the problem a majority of spam, off-topic threads, and flaming would disappear. PMing moderators about threads/posts violating the rules, and not responding to forum trolls will go a long way towards promoting the community. No fancy programs needed.

Giving large amounts of people responsibility would require even more moderation in the end. With power, the neccessity of watching those with it, comes along. If a mod goes out of line and consistently abbuses or misuses his/her powers they will be removed out of power. However once hundreds get some form of judicial power, there will be know way to judge their intentions towards particular members or topics.

The thing I love about this forum and HBO is this: the KISS Principle

Keep It Simple Stupid!

Sometimes, a nice clean interface, and an uncluttered forum will go a long way towards promoting meaningful discussion.

A signature that contains our xbox live levels would only encourage modding and bridging. It would also discourage people in the forum who don't play xbox live.
