But why would it need tracer rounds if it's only a short range weapon?
.

That's why, in real life, tracers arent used in AR's. At least not under normal circumstances.

they put tracers in the ar to make it look cool. thats the same reason they put the contrails on the sniper. thats the same reason they made the pistol bullets explode on impact. thats the same reason they made the plasma projectiles drip as they flew.

really, most of the stuff you see is to make it look cool.

P.S. I've heard that Halo's pistol shots are affected by gravity.

There was a large heated discussion on these board almost a year ago and everybody was arguing about the rotation spin of Halo and how gravity affects the rounds. It was quite humorous, so I went out and did a Mythbuster experiment.

I made sure that decals was on so I could see bullet holes. I stood in front of the red base where the red symbol is on one of the parapets. Aimed at the middle of the symbol and pulled the trigger. I took a step back and repeated. When I got 3/4 of the way to Fuel rod I noticed seemed to be hitting below where I was aiming. About 5 to 10 feet beyond the fuel rod the bullet was hitting a full inch or two below where I was aiming. I took another step back and the bullet never hit. Step forward it hit. So there is a finite range for the pistol and it drops 1 or 2 inches at extreme range.

Halo PC's pistol bullets ARE affected by gravity:
I have to aim high when at range to fit the head better (so I am ending up aiming over their head.

the purpose of tracer rounds in real life is so u can see where your aiming at night and adjust your aim accordingly...cuz think about it. If your firing at night, you cant see where the bullets are going, so you don't really know if you are hitting your target or not.simple.

Well usually you can see if you hit some guy because they double over in pain.

Anyway, does each level have a different amount of wind that affects the sr contrails? Or do the contrails have their own phsyics that go with them into each level?

Oh yeah, thanks Iggwilv for that explanation. I've always wondered because I always have trouble hitting people that are that far away with a pistol. But when you say an inch, do you mean a real life inch or an in-game inch?

An inch in the game not on your screen. Imagine the Cheif walking up the target and placing a ruler against it, the bullet hole would be a couple inches below where he was aiming. It might register the shot as a body shot instead of a head shot, but I wouldn't start aiming too much over ppls heads because its not that much of a difference.

saying the bullets are affected by gravity is just an excuse for a glitch :)

at any range in the game the pistol should be accurate enough to hit where the bullet goes in a straight line. notice i said where the bullet goes, not where you aim it. the game for some reason likes to make the first shot of a burst perfectly accurate. which isnt possible. and somehow it thinks that you clicking every time you want to fire is different than holding down the trigger. dont know why... but ok.

the pistol is ridiculously accurate, and the only real reason the bullets should dip like that after a certain distance is a glitch. the bullets are so fast that in order for it to start curving down it would have to fly a mile or 2 first. which wouldnt take more than a few seconds.

Every thing is affected by the wind in the maps, however, somethings have their own physics too.

I play ut too its awsome, but not as good as halo.

basically it follows where the bullet goes. thats all that it really does. then it might drift to the side if theres wind. i dont know the technicalities... but it would be nice if they had made it without the tracers... would have seemed more like a rifle to me. heck, i play ut tho. so what am i talking about

The sniper rifle IS moddled after the marines M95 Barrett sniper. The SEALs mainly use a Magnum sniper with a .45 caliber round. The essence of Magnum is more gunpowder is aded to the back of the casing to make it go further. From the more gunpowder, ure able to see the round travel down range its quite cool. and If u want some good physics on weapons play battlefieild 2.

Bungie mostl likely put tracers on surtain weapons to add fairness to the game as many of u have said. It makes since.

Isnt halo a game lol xP
