Subject: Will we ever see the Halo Wars vehicles again?

I started up the heated debate on whether the SPARTAN-II in the cryo tube near the end of Reach is really Linda.
I created the Moa XING avatar pic.
Also I earned the All Star nameplate with this submission to Week 14 All Stars http://www.bungie.net/images/News/Inline11/bwu_0415/art/likea boss.jpg

Since Halo Wars is canon, I've been wondering if we'll ever see the vehicles and aircraft from the game in a future halo title.
I was hoping to see at least a Vulture in Halo: Reach. Which honestly I would have loved to see Vultures, Wolverines, and Cobras on "Tip of the Spear."

Perhaps, the thing is they are either too expensive to mass produce or too slow/weak against modern plasma weapons to actually work.

Have you seen my mind anywhere? I seem to have lost it...

Or maybe they were only used by a specific part of the Navy, (like if the contemporary fifth fleet had a specific piece of equipment that wasn't used by another part for some reason or other).

Probably not, but that doesn't really bother me. The Halo Wars unique units always seemed too "generic RTS" for my tastes.

It would make sense though for Anti-Air units to be made. Wolverines look very similar to some real world AA vehicles.
I understand that the UNSC lost Reach because the only things that were being sent to battle were Falcons, Warthogs and Tanks.

Vehicles like Sparrowhawks and Vultures are way too expensive, Sparrowhawks have Galilean Nonlinear Rifles (aka Spartan Lasers) mounted on their chins, a Spartan Laser alone is 218,000 cR, now imagine how much credits would they spend on those.

I never had a problem with the Wolverine, in fact they were my favorite unit. The units I had a problem with are the Cobra, which was a shameless ripoff of the Seige Tank from Starcraft, and the Vulture, which aside from being dumb, was far too similar to the gunship thing fromAvatar.

You cannot have a super fast uber unit man, it's only natural Vultures will be slow :P

Although slow, they can change the tide of a battle. I remember playing 2 on 1 in that flood map in Wars, my teammate left as soon as the match began and so, I was left against two captains/commanders (me being a private), I just did some Marines and began to take bases. When I had a good 4 bases I made 3 Vultures and the enemy began to attack, my Vultures bought me the time I needed to make Scorpions, whom then gave me the time I needed for ODSTs and soon (40 minutes later) I had 12 out of 15 bases.

Eventually, my Vultures were shot down because of some Wolverines, and I couldn't get near them because they had what I like to call a Cobra blockade(10/15 Cobras lined together in piercing shot mode around the base). I had to use the same strategy and I won. While the Cobras were the ones that let me win, Vultures got me the time I needed to actually survive, so yup, they are really useful.

Locusts, Vampires, & Gorgons. Oh my!

I have no problem with the unit in-game, I don't like it as it relates to the Halo story. Yet another UNSC unit that can magically hover.

Yes I know how Robot Entertainment can get the money to make Halo Wars 2. Sue James Cameron for taking the idea for the Vulture.

It actually uses the same mechanism as the Pelican to "hover", I don't really mind the Vulture to be honest, although I think it would be unfit for real battle.

First, it has never been explained what powers a Pelican and allows it to hover, and second a Vulture is much larger then a Pelican.

I'm just saying that it uses the same mechanism to hover, those being jet engines or ducted fans in the back and belly of the aircraft.

An interesting comparison:

Avatar Dragon Gunship

UNSC Vulture

The problem with the vulture is that its way too big and slow to be used unless the UNSC has air superiority which almost never happended so it would be understandable if the UNSC stopped using them.

Halo Wars vehicles were more suited for large scale fighting than the behind enemy lines fighting/ covert ops that we usually see in the games and most books. If we start getting material on fighting on the frontlines we would probably see them get used.

  • 05.08.2011 9:56 PM PDT

About the Vulture, I want to see more pelican!! Not just picking you up and dropping you off, But i want to see some fighting in the skybox and i want to control the turret on the back shooting down Banshees while the CCS cruisers glass behind us! -blam!- YEAH!

Ehem, No not really, I think what the got going now is good.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

I would love to see Halo Wars vehicles, again. I doubt it'll happen, though. I wanted Bungie to put them in Reach, but that game was such a failure. Anyhow, 343i should make a sequel to Halo Wars. I think it'll be fun for all the Halo RTS/Halo Wars fans out there. I loved playing the HW's campaign and multiplayer.

In memory of those fallen in the defense of Earth and her colonies.

March 3, 2553

The things in halo wars were meant for balancing and such, im not entirely sure if they are canon though.

wouldn't even go there dude, I have tried to argue that sort of point repeatedly about enormous Frigates just hanging in the sky, with no obvious propulsion keeping them aloft, don't understand why the Pelican can't just rotate its engines like a Harrier. all I have ever got to that sort of question is just 'anti-gravity' or something along those lines, which I replied 'then why does the Falcon have rotors? why does the Hornet have thrusters? and so on...' its just one of those terrible science fiction 'trademark' things that apparently I just have to live with! :-(

  • 05.09.2011 4:39 AM PDT

also, most obvious Halo: Wars vehicle that would be used is possibly the Wolverine, for airspace suppression. another bad thing about Halo: Reach is the 'Tip of the Spear' level when two forces just 'drive' into each-other, how short ranged are these weapons? and why the hell are Gauss Hogs so rare, why waste time, resources and effort on making normal Warthogs or Missile Hogs when the Gauss is more effective against both ground and air targets!

so the Wolverine seems like a good vehicle to be possibly used again, perhaps the Cobra as well, would love to see the Sparrow-hawk personally since they are cool as hell.
