I think a new fourm rule should be "Treat others as you would in real life." This helps to umbrella things that are still innappropiate for the fourm, but not under a specific catagory.

If anyone has another rule they think would help to improve the Bungie.net community, please post it. Eventually, maybe there could be a "Fourm Constitution" or something everyone signs to agree on Bungie.net community behavior besides the TOS. This way it is by the community, of the community, and for the community.

Your suggested rule wouldn't work too well. What if someone is an a'hole in real life? Then they would be an a'hole on the forums and use that rule as a shield.

The terms of use & code of conduct pretty much cover this, people agree to them on signing up so a constitution would just be another important document to ignore. Generally, people who read forum rules will also read the terms of use and code of conduct as well, so unfortunately any effects it would have would be minor. That's not to say it would be completely wasted, but you get the picture.

what about this,if you made a thread and wanted to keep you could moderate it to a degree, like banning somewon from posting in it, if they were like obnoxious or bumbed it or flamed at you.

"You're wrong, and here's why."
"BANNED FROM THREAD."

Admittedly, arguing your side of the issue would be made a whole lot easier.

It means precisely what you said. If you don't want someone posting in it, then you ban them. Goweb was just explaining the problem, being that some people are jerks, and hate to be corrected.

In other words, someone could make a thread saying their opinion is right (Halo 1 >/+/< Halo 2; Superjumping is/isn't cheating; You guys have no lives), and if someone else posts something trying to oppose this opinion, then they get banned from posting in the thread. That way no one ever opposes the thread maker.

*Shudder*

I have to admit that there is a calm and serene feeling of satisfaction that comes from knowing that if you want, you WILL get the last word in.

I always try to never abuse it.

that makes sense but what i'm saying is like if they bumb or break the rules that may get the thread lock and it's not the creators fault but i can see that happening because of flaming, it seem's like people always have to be jerks

Well, that does happen. However, either the mods take up time looking through every post, or lock the thread and blacklist the trouble-maker(s). And it would be nice if the thread creator had this power so he could stop said trouble-maker(s), but like everything else, this would be abused by those very jerks.

This already happens but how effective is it?

I'd like to see a "all your mum belongs to us" rule in the code of conduct. yes, that rule will effect us all. But it just seems right in the CoC.

Like the thought, hate the wording. No ideas on correct wording yet, but i'll work on it.

Treat others in a legally and politically correct way, and with such manners that it is allowed on these forums. Or something like that.

Bungie owns everything, you have no rights. So if you get banned for breaking their rules, that you most in likely never read to a degree, then tough crap. Moderators do their job for a reason, there is always a crap head around.

There should be a rule against idiocy. Oh, wait, that would never work. How about a rule against creating the same topic thousands of times? Silly me, that wouldn't work either.

I believe that rule would apply well in real life but it would not have the same effect here.

Bungie is the dictator of this site, the fans are just the followers who agree to there TOS when they join. They make the rules as they go.

I guess we can always add rules BUT people need to read and follow them properly. In my opinion, we have enough. People just need to obey them and to learn to act mature. If they acomplish that (Unlikely but possible), this community will be the best.
