Subject: A question about all the different kinds of Elites across the games

Across all the Halo games, we've seen many, many different varieties of Elites, most only appearing in a single game. I was wondering: according to accepted canon, are each of these varieties of Elite distinct and unique? Or is there overlap, with the differences due simply to choices made by the game designers?

For example, each game (except Halo 3) has featured some kind of invisible Elite. Some of them have shields, and some of them are called "Spec-Ops." According to canon, are the invisible Elites in Halo 1, 2, and Reach all the same or is each variety distinct?

As far as I'm aware the changes in appearance from game to game are purely aesthetic/graphical. A Spec Ops elite in Reach is the same as a Spec Ops from the others. Similar to the changes in ODST and marine armour.

Potato, potato. Different names for the same things.

I know the Halo wikis try to place a different label on every single unique Elite variant, but since these differences are more likely due to the game designers' choices as opposed to in-universe variations, I just wanted to ask what you all think.

"Ignorance is a plague."

Close, but the plague killed those infected with it, and the ignorant are still alive.
I wish ignorance was a plague.

I think that they are pretty much the same thing, the appearance just changes each game.

The elites have canon ranks like minor/major domo, ultra, zealot etc... based on armor type and color. Differences that show up between games with these ranks are usually only for aesthetic or gameplay reasons and so should be considered the same.

Indeed

What was established was only the colours mattered, blue for a minor elite, red for a major, and zealot applied to any elite in charge of a ground operation.
