Beat downs do almost no dmg. Bungie Please increse dmg like it is on halo 2. Seriously you have to punch the person like 6 times before they die.

Depends on how far away you are from the person, where you beat him, and the type of weapon you are using.

One smack on the head with the flagpole or the shotgun is enough (there could be other weapons, don't know).

If you stand next to your target it usually takes 2 or 3 hits to floor him.

If the target is moving however, it can take up to 6-7 hits yes...

Listen for the beep. That's a hit register telling you that it did some damage. If they're moving you need to compensate for lag. Everything you see in an online game is a split second late. That's why you need to lead shots and time your melees differently so you strike where they actually are.

For example. Someone is running directly toward you. Melee when he's half a Warthog's distance from you to compensate for lag. Remember to listen for a hit register. Don't believe the smack sounds you hear when meleeing someone. What you are seeing on your screen is not what's really happening according to the server because it sent you info about that player's location a split second late. Remember those times when you've chased someone right behind them while constantly smacking their back? They didn't die because they're actually a few more feet in front of you rather than a few inches.

the melee is fine... i once beat down 3 guys with a flag. one had a shotty, one had a rl, and another had a battle rifle (this was on zanzi CE) and it was in the tunnel. they could have easily killed me but i was fast with my melees and got them first.

ok, first of all, you only have to hit a person once; in the back. this is absurdly simple to do, even if the player is facing you. second of all, swinging at a person will do absolutly no damage. in order to hit someone, you have to 1. be close enough to them, 2. aim, and 3. just like when you shoot them, you need to lead your melee
that way, they will be dead in 3 hits or less.
second of all, as far as modding goes, modding damage is absurdly simple. if you think it's a problem, why don't you change it yourself?

I think I've read that all weapons have the same melee damage, and that the oddball and flag are slightly stronger in that area....

There have been some rumors about the needler having extra melee damage. I'm not sure how accurate this claim is, but those needles on the weapon make you think about it....

Ya, I'd try meleeing for the head, I think it may do extra damage. Personally It's a good strategy to greande someone, then while they're still stunned go in for the melee, or try the same with a plasma rifle.
