Where was it said Lightsabers cannot block bullets? They consist of Plasma drawn from Crystals. The blade itself is basically the same as a Energy sword, where did you get the information that it cannot block bullets?

The only place I've heard people reference it to is some old tabletop game.

(They say a bullet hitting a lightsaber will cause a piece of molten metal to slam into the wielders face.)

Never heard of that. So that would melt the bullet and then the bullet would hit the 'Saber's user?
That...actually makes a lot of sense.

Delete this thread before the sith discover this fatal weakness and exploit it!

The problem with it is, the lightsaber, being plasma, melts through near everything. How would the bullet not be vaporized on impact with the blade?

The rules of reality are less relevant in SW then in Halo, All we're going by is the article in Wookieepedia that quite clearly states bullets are impossible to completely deflect by a Jedi. And this, BTW, is cited as coming from the Star Wars Source Book (1987) not some age old table top game.

And in the case of a sword, we know they at least can block bullets. Different universes, remember, different rules.

Impossible to completely deflect can mean many possible things.

Star Wars Source book... sounds like an obscure old thing to me. Especially the fact it's from 1987. If that isn't 'age old' what is? Half the content of the book probably has been revised by now.

Still, I see nothing that says the lightsaber blade should behave any differently then an energy sword blade.

Energy sword

Well with Lightsabers and Energy swords both being made of plasma, both being able to deflect DEW's such as blasters and each other.

It all comes down to the user.

My bias opinion, the lightsaber.

Oh Roberto, had to add in.

Aren't source books directly tied into tabletop games?

And the fact this "Bullets not being fully deflected" is mentioned nowhere else as far as I can see...

Both would incinerate bullets, only jedi could accurately block them however, but spartans could maybe come close, or block one or two with their reflexes. Also for blocking bullets, an energy sword is wider.

lightsaber

Pretty evenly matched. Unless you throw sword blocking in there...

Well, both are incredibly easy to slice yourself up with.

However, I kinda think the lightsaber does better, as you can have many different types of hilts and forms.

Not to mention how difficult it looks to hold an Energy Sword and actually fight with it effectively.

Battle is the most magnificent competition in which a human being can indulge. It brings out all that is best; it removes all that is base. All men are afraid in battle. The coward is the one who lets his fear overcome his sense of duty. Duty is the essence of manhood.
-George S. Patton

May the force be with me.

there are also different types of energy swords too, just look at some halo comics or halo wars

light sabers are laser, not plasma

Um, wrong. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Lightsaber

The weapon consisted of a blade of pure plasma energy emitted from the hilt and suspended in a force containment field.

I don't have a signature so don't look.

I would prefer the lightsaber.

Energy sword looks more bad-ass

  • 05.25.2011 1:14 PM PDT

The concept is all that really matters.

I don't think the lightsaber runs out of energy, or at least not as quickly as the energy sword. Lightsaber wins.

If you think you've got lag just think how jesus felt, it took him three days to respawn.

Lightsaber is longer ;)

In actual fact, the sword is longer, altho the light saber can be adjusted in length.

I would prefer the sword. for defense, it makes a greater block being thinker. The handle looks to be more comfortable and less likely to get knocked out of your hand.

Both should be light weight and cut through wind.

However, the sword being double edge has the advantage. You could easily slide the saber between the double edge, with a twisting motion, rip the saber from the users hand.

A double edge saber like Darth mauls might be a whole new story.

If its a question of Jedi VS Elites, no contest. Jedi have force powers. force push, or even removing the sword from the elites hand with the force.

Problem with the "Catching lightsaber blade between prongs."

A: That's a very small opening.
B: Once completed, the chance of them simply slamming the blade down quickly into the wider section, and slicing through your hand and the hilt, is high.
C: The person using the lightsaber can quickly turn off the blade, then reactivate it after the twisting motion, and use the opening that it gives them.

I would agree, but its circumstantial.
A) In a fight like that, crap happens so quick. Cant predict opponent.
b) Slamming the blade down, assuming the light saber is perfectly above sword user hand? Sword user would retain distance, diagonally catching the saber between prongs tips, and twisting quick enough that saber user wouldn't have time to react.
If saber is slammed down, the distance would be too short to reach hand (hard to explain)
Its all about the angle and distance.
C) Turn off the blade and quickly turn on? high risk of sword user stabbing before that saber come back on.

Again all circumstantial. Too many variables, but i would say, two is better than 1.

Im Star trek, the Klingon batleth is one of the most skilled close range weapons. Its curved out blades can grab and rip opponents sword from hand.

I be gone into the depts of abyss. I'm leaving Bungie.net. Sorry.

I'm sorry, but the Lightsaber is 8x faster than the Energy sword; however, the Energy sword is 8x more powerful than the Lightsaber.

Both can cut trough ANYTHING.

It all depends on the warrior...

  • 05.26.2011 1:08 PM PDT

In reality the lightsaber and Energy sword are exactly the same. Powered by different means but are both essientally blades of plasma with no real differences other then shape of the blade.

But I will agree that it is all about who's more skilled.

  • 05.26.2011 1:17 PM PDT

ZeroExe, there is an actual lightsaber combat form, I'll try to find it on the star wars wiki. The basis of the form is that in combat, you deactivate, and activate the blade quickly. It distracts your opponent and allows you to exploit openings normally not available.

So yes, a skill enough user could use that tactic to free his blade before being disarmed. Won't always work, but it is a possibility.
