Subject: "That's the largest Covenant Fleet I've ever seen"

its never mentioned in any of the books or in any of the games, only that it is a sizeable fleet. think about it this way, how many ships were at Unyielding Heirophant? it'll likely be more than that since High Charity was the single most important asset in the Covenant.

Well, if it's the largest anyones's ever seen, it's greater than 700 which was the amount at Reach, but I don't know the exact number.

fixed. Number of Covenant ships at Reach was retconned.

Wrong, that was an error made by taking Hood's exaggeration at face value, the reference to 700+ ships at Reach is only made once, and then every time after that it goes back to about 314. The number of Covenant ships at Reach has not changed at all, well not the amount of ships in the Fleet of Particular Justice at least, there were probably a little more than 314 ships there because of the left overs of the fleet that arrived on the 14th. I'd estimate total Covenant ships at Reach toward the end of the fight to be no more than about 400.

OT: High Charity's fleet is huge, probably numbering in the thousands would be my guess.

343 fails then. FOREVER.
retconning and then counterretconning in the same book. Nope.

I'd assume that it's more likely an editing mistake 343i didn't catch when going over the book, just like they didn't catch the messed up dates :P

Yeah, it doesn't really matter. The Brutes and Elites fighting each other accounted for the most lost Covenant armies than any other battle in the history of the War. They were the ones responsible for the piss-poor odds the Covenant faces against the UNSC in Halo 3, idiocy.

I could be wrong but wasn't the fleet around High Charity (HC)approx 300-500 ships.

I think it was said they we're safeguarding HC and arming for invasion.

Then HC was decimated and took over 80% of that fleet with it? Where the remaining ships were damaged too.
