Did any one else notice that both jorge and sam (the biggest and strongest in their team) had worthless deaths on covenant ships before the real fighting begins. I think bungie needs to find a more creative way to kill off the big guy.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

Jorge didn't have a worthless death, he probably took hundreds of thousands of enemies with him, Sam on the other hand....

  • 05.13.2011 1:35 PM PDT

i would have preferred to see him go out in a hand to hand combat death instead of an "ill stay behind" death that seems overused. thats what i meant

Sam's death proved that the Covies could actually be fought.

Jorge's wasn't needed at all. Really 6 should have been the one to die.

He knew Six was more valuable, that's why he sacrificed himself. So no, S-III's > S-II's/

What makes you think Spartan II's are better, enlighten me please.

If someone HAD to die on that mission I think it should have been Kat, I mean it was her plan and she died right afterwords.

Had that argument, and it was proven wrong.

Frankly, we could argue Jorge's death was needed. Without his sacrifice the UNSC fleet would have lost most likely several ships trying to take down the super carrier, and would have been out of formation to strike at the incoming fleets.

Spartan IIs and IIIs are the same importance wise, in my opinion.

Spartan IIs were given superior eqipment, trained longer, superior augmentations, and had a more "perfect" gene pool. SIIIs were, by definition, built to die.

The job of sacrificing ones life to destroy a high value target--like a Supercarrier--is literally what SIIIs are trained for. There is no real reason for 6 to not have died on that ship. And as a result, the most interesting character in the game dies 5 levels in. Great.

I agree with you, although I tend to favor the Spartan III's more.

Why Jorge? Why not 6?

Ackerson said they were cheaper worse versions of S-II that had a less strict genetic markers

I agree completely

  • 05.13.2011 2:10 PM PDT

Spartan III's had better training, better augmentations, and were ONLY considered "expendable" by Ackerson.

Spartan II's were trained two years more than Spartan III's and to be honest, it wasn't all that better, they were taught about history and the likes, just like any other military school, unlike the Spartan III's whom were taught only about combat, combat and more combat.

The augmentations had the same results, just different approaches, while Spartan II's had surgeries to get some of the augmentations (their bones and eyes), Spartan III's had them chemically induced due to advances in technology, thus, making it safer for them. So, no superior augmentations, besides, Noble Team members had Spartan II genetic criteria and thus, were essentially Spartan II's, just not belonging to Halsey.

The only thing that Spartan II's had for them was equipment and age, but that's about it.

And the Commanders who gave them their missions.

And Bungie. Who openly and always called them "fire and forget" troops.

Really the only two who don't consider them expendeble were Mendez and Kurt.
