I prefer him in Combat Evolved, I feel he has the most emotion in it, and his armor is cooler. =P

He has the personality of a brick in all three games.

Seriously Predkiller, what is it with your unnatural affection with Chief? Do you ever wonder why people thought he was a robot? He had zero emotion and zero development.

I really don't think his personality was all that different in the games :/ So I am not going to really pick, you should have included "I like him the same in all 3" or something similar as an option :P

I want to guess that part of the reason he is so emotionless in the games (as opposed to in the books) is because all his friends and family just died on reach. Or well, kind of.

He knows some of them are still alive after Halo: CE

Everytime someone sacks my groceries, I think of Loaf.

MC- "Sir, permission to leave the station."

H- "For what purpose?"

MC- "To give the Covenant back their bomb."

H- "Granted."

Sorry, but its gotta be Halo 2.

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

I guess halo 2 since he had more emotion that was visible through body language.

The books, where he actually has a personality.

Except he really didn't :/ Not imo at least. He seemed much more of a robotic and empty shell in the books than in any of the games.

I prefer him in the books, where he actually is a character. In the games he's a bit dull.

Combat evolved. He actually makes jokes, and has more than 3 words per line. "I need a weapon". Pah. What a -blam!- line.

"No thanks to your driving, but yes." Sarcasm? Alrighty then.

Halo 2. He was a total badass.

Lol, well he certainly had more then in the games such as CE. Knowing what he was thinking helps as well.

and that was... all the personality from the super soldier we saw in CE.

Sangheili Major: "Brute ships. Staggered line! Shipmaster, they outnumber us, three-to-one!"

Rtas 'Vadum: "Then it is an even fight. All Cruisers, fire at will! Burn their mongrel hides!"

I honestly didn't notice much difference between his personality throughout the games, nor the books, really.
I noticed in Halo 3 he was a little...cold, and he didn't talk often--however, he was with Thel a lot...and he didn't seem to like talking to Thel.

In the books. Same reasons as stated before.

Halo 2

Definitely Halo 2. "Relax. I'd rather not piss this thing off."

What about when he is sent to High Charity by the Gravemind and upon appearing next to a grunt simply says "Boo."

And to me, one of the most memorable moments of the trilogy is when he leaves Cortana inside High Charity:

Chief: "After I'm through with Truth..."
Cortana: "Don't make a girl a promise... If you know you can't keep it."

Personality is there with the Chief, it's just sprinkled in very rarely and it's not always easy to read. He's obviously torn to leave Cortana at that moment, you just have to dig a little deeper.

Understandable really, seeing as Thel is the one who led the fleet that destroyed Reach (possibly some worst loss of human lives during the war). Conversation with someone like that would be very awkward, though you can see that Chief trusts Thel in such moments as when they go back to back after the Gravemind appear after killing Truth and when he gives him a nod after they land in the Forward Unto Dawn. Plus Chief's not really much of a talker...never really was, either in the books or the games.

  • 05.14.2011 7:32 PM PDT

Honestly, I don't think he was meant to be a "talker." Actions speak louder than words anyway.

  • 05.14.2011 7:58 PM PDT

I think its pretty apparent he isn't a robot. There is a human, flesh blood and bone, underneath that armor. I hope the new novels explore that...

I agree, he's not meant to be a talker, and Spartans don't relate as well to non-Spartans anyway. I agree with the second point too, like when he picks up the Marine and just chucks him into the escape pod, or when he puts his hand on the marine who's panicking.

He puts his hand on him? When did that happen?
