Honestly, I don't think he was meant to be a "talker." Actions speak louder than words anyway.

I agree, he's not meant to be a talker, and Spartans don't relate as well to non-Spartans anyway. I agree with the second point too, like when he picks up the Marine and just chucks him into the escape pod, or when he puts his hand on the marine who's panicking.

He puts his hand on him? When did that happen?

In the pod, a marine starts panicking and Master chief pats him on the shoulder before moving forward toward the bumblebee pilot.

Sangheili Major: "Brute ships. Staggered line! Shipmaster, they outnumber us, three-to-one!"

Rtas 'Vadum: "Then it is an even fight. All Cruisers, fire at will! Burn their mongrel hides!"

I honestly didn't notice much difference between his personality throughout the games, nor the books, really.
I noticed in Halo 3 he was a little...cold, and he didn't talk often--however, he was with Thel a lot...and he didn't seem to like talking to Thel.

Understandable really, seeing as Thel is the one who led the fleet that destroyed Reach (possibly some worst loss of human lives during the war). Conversation with someone like that would be very awkward, though you can see that Chief trusts Thel in such moments as when they go back to back after the Gravemind appear after killing Truth and when he gives him a nod after they land in the Forward Unto Dawn. Plus Chief's not really much of a talker...never really was, either in the books or the games.

Heh, yeah.
I think I do, in the end, after watching the cutscenes through again, like the silence between the two. Otherwise the epic back-to-back thing wouldn't have been as awesome, and the little nod they exchanged at the end wouldn't have been as...well, touching, I guess. LOL

Heero Yuy: My enemies are those who try to kill me and those who stand in my way.

Dekar: I hate to brag, but my skills with the sword are immortal.

"This one is machine and nerve, but has its mind concluded... This one is but flesh and faith and is the more.. deluded," rhymed the Gravemind. Yes, Chief was taciturn, but it was because he had 'concluded' his decision on to destroy all of Humanity's threats. He didn't need to speak most of the time since he was intently listening. The Arbiter, in contrast, needed to speak, because his whole life's foundation was struck and he was trying to find the answers to what he needed to do.

Also, when he asked in Halo 3 if Truth usually mentioned him, that was very indicative of his personality. And then there's the part where he says to Cortana, "You know me, when I make a promise..."

Personally, I found his trusting of the Arbiter was because Johnson said he was cool, and Chief trusted Johnson with everything. The only reason he didn't talk to him was because nothing needed to be said, except when the Arbiter asked if that ship contained more Brutes and the Chief said, "Worse." By the way, that is the ONLY thing Chief says to Arbiter in Halo 3.

To me it seems as if someone tried to strap a bomb on his back and now he is pissed about it

Doesn't Chief talk to the arbiter at the end of the mission where they kill truth?

No, he doesn't, the Arbiter just says, "We trade one villain for another," and the Chief readies his weapon.

Mhm *nods*
I personally thinks it kinda speaks to how far along they've come, you don't really need to say anything to someone when you're in a tight spot and you've pretty much won each other trust and friendship, a single look is all it takes to know what the other is thinking. Chief and Arbiter certainly came a long way since their meeting in Halo 2 that's for sure.

Maybe at first, but you can't really not form some sort of bond with somebody after fighting alongside them many times.

I don't remember that line, I was talking when they see the under construction halo for the first time, and Master Chief comments.

He has the personality of a brick in all three games.

He had some personality in Halo 2, not much, but enough for it to be there.

  • 05.21.2011 1:10 PM PDT

Ahh it's you. Been a while hasn't it? We WILL finish this.

Just you wait.

Halo:the flood gave him the most emotion ever. I felt like he was actually human not some mindless robotic man in power armor. You know guys in the flood, chief actually cared if the marines he's fighting with are okay or not!! AMAZING!! I've never seen that b4 coming from john. He was even able to succesfully communicate with non spartans. But then in first strike he immediately went back to having the personality of a complete brick. Oh well that and halo 2 and halo 3. But in the Fall of Reach, chief has the worst personality ever. Straight up. He didn't care about anything but the good of the mission and he just lived like a complete robot.

He has quite a bit in Combat Evolved and Halo 3. In Combat Evolved I really enjoyed the conversations between him, Cortana, and 343 in the Control Room. Oh, and when Cortana first uses the teleportation grid. You don't see that sort of stuff in the other games. Halo 3 had that one scene at the end when Johnson dies, and when the Chief and Miranda discuss the Halo rings, and then Truth barges in all preachy-like.

In Halo 2 he was nothing more than a walking one-liner, complete and utter sh17, I don't see why everyone likes him from Halo 2 the best.

kinda like talking to hitler.

anyway i think in ce he expressed alot emotion.
hitting his head when cortana screwed up the teleporting, sounding confused and arguing with her in the control room, complimenting her driving. thats just some of it.
