Let the flaming begin, but please read first...
As much as l hate to say it, being a huge fan of Halo like the rest of you, l personally hope that the next game to come out of Bungie is NOT Halo 3. lf other game design houses can release more than one successful franchise, why the heck shouldn't Bungie be able to try and create another winning title? l'd laugh to 'see' the incredulity of the people in these forums at the idea (audacity, to some) of Bungie actually putting out something other than Halo (remember these people have made other games in the past). Just because some people may not be familiar with those titles (myself included), that doesn't mean that others didn't love them before. And who knows? They may actually build a huge following on the console, being that they're more mainstream...
And, should Halo 3 be the next game to come out, the idea that it be released for the original Xbox is, to put it bluntly, ridiculous. Halo was the killer app for the original Xbox. That game is the reason l bought my Xbox. Granted, l didn't buy it until nearly a year after release, and it killed me not being able to play it, but l got it eventually. lf, as it was suggested in the story (for those who didn't read it...you know who you are), Bungie wants this game to be played in the years to come, why would you put it on an 'inferior' console (that suggestion also makes me cringe...l love my original 'box...let's say 'system that can't handle it')?
l say, 'Make this game all it can be. Make it ROCK', and don't cater to those who can't afford it now, but will find the means later (you know you will, you finally got your Xboxes like l did, after all...). So you won't be able to get it right away, but not everbody ever can... The reality is, the 360 is out there. Let's put something on it and forget about backwards compatibilty and push that machine! Cross-system game on Live with Halo 2 until you're able to join the rest, and consider 3 incentive.
Long story short, Bungie will do what they feel is right for them and for us. They're not out to burn their loyal and valued gamers. We all know they are doing their best to put out a top notch game for everyone. lt just remains to be seen what it will be. l'm sure we'll all embrace it, regardless.
