1 The 300 spartans who defended greece at thermopylae is a well-known and cherished tale (almost to the point of romantic fanaticism) within the military community (coincidently, the ORION project generation two was originally funded for 300 candidates.)

I would say more but I can't at this time.

The one thing I love is that their armor is named after the Hammer of Thor.

fun fact: the GUNGNIR armor from halo reach is named after Odin's spear. it never missed and always killed its target

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Because they lived lives very similar to ancient Greece Spartans.

Trained from a young age to be the best soldiers humanity has ever seen.

And it was developed alongside the Spartan Laser, which has another Norse thing I believe. Might've been Odin's symbol.

@accordingto343

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

Beats the other names she devised.

Do you know what kind of hat I'm wearing?

A party hat; you don't get one. An honor will this party be, a party in your honor, for your honor. Some of Tfear's personal guards are going to be there. You'll be introduced shortly.

Prepare to die.

2. The ancient spartans' training is legendary they started when boys were seven, molding them into the most fierce and feared warriors of that day. I will do the same.

3. Most intriguing to me were the eugenic customs of the Spartan culture. Their babies were inspected for strength and fitness; if lacking, the babies were destroyed.(by any modern standard, though I wonder in what way the selection protocols I've authored are any less excessive... any less cruel.)

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

They're named after the heroic 300 Spartans who died in the battle of Thermopylae.

"... a rose by any other name would smell as sweet..."

or in Halo terms;

"... a Spartan by another other name would kick as much ass..."
