I'm beginning to think a great part of the wide appeal of this game is how the weapons weren't very accurate. Sure, the bullets would likely mostly hit at close range, but compared to games today, like Reach or Black Ops, most guns weren't geared for quick kills across the map. You had to get up and personal like in Gears, or be very good with grenades.
Think about it. In the olden days, you had to be quite good to 3-hit someone with the M6D. With anything else, and even with the M6D, you'd have to constantly strafe, use your grenades, which were easy to avoid if you were good, and maneuver to gain every advantage. Even vehicles weren't immune; the tank was wildly inaccurate at long range, as were all the others.
But today, it's disappointing. Everything is either long-range and extreme CQB, with no room to maneuver. Compare Longest to anything in Reach. Even in those hallways you could move to avoid grenades and get behind cover. The DMR is based exclusively around pinpoint accuracy at medium-long range. Assault Rifle and most other weapons are medium range, and with such weak shield strength and low health you have no chance to reach cover. Even the vehicles shoot exactly where you aim them, with no deviation, even at long range. There's no need to adapt to the flaws of weapons when do exactly what you need every single time.
Just a thought.
