Staff Sergeant future 510, serial number HHT3-09PL, Flood Military Reserve.

What the hell is a Spartan supposed to do after the war? I don't think ONI would just hand them a pention check and show them the door, and its not like they would know what to do anyway.

Kidnapped at six years old, Spartans can't have a lot of social experience, or knowledge of the world in general. If its not involved in any military profession or text-book, they probably don't know it. It could be equated to dumping your dog in the wild and saying "Go be a wolf now."

Seriouly, what's an agumented super soldier supposed to make of himself when there's no wars to fight anymore?

War is never over. There is always someone left to fight. The Spartans will never retire.

Contrary to common belief, SPARTANS have a lot more human qualities than most think. I believe they could adapt well, living out the rest of their lives in solitude, or in the company of old friends from the war. Grab a few beers, kick back and exchange funny, or interesting, war stories.

It might seem ridiculous, but I think ONI might just euthenize them.

343i will not let that happen. He isn't fully milked yet.

His old bones are gettin' pretty dried up now. He's still got one more kickin' to do. Now he's gonna finish the fight; for real.

The is ridiculous...

ONI would rather place them in cryosleep until they are needed.

However, I'm one of the oddballs who believes Spartans CAN get sick of fighting all the time, and can retire.

Spartans can retire. There was a comic where a retired spartan tested out the mjolnir mark 6.

This.

Plus, why would a Spartan want to retire ? Can't imagine a Spartan wanting to go on a Saga holiday, dig up an allotment or sit on a park bench gurning at passing people.

Spartans are damn near property of the UNSC so I doubt they could just up and decide to retire one day. O'Conner dropped a hint somewhere that Maria was a special case. Didn't say why though.

The only time I see spartans being allowed to retire is if they get too injured to go on missions, get too old, or develop medical problems that turns them into a liability.

They can try and kill off the Spartans, but after several cases of broken arms, legs and necks they will remember that they were designed to be unbeatable

Spartans are soldiers, not property..

If the fighting slows/stops (As it would be for humans after halo 3), I'm fairly sure they could retire/take a break.

We should know better, because we are better.

War will never end for them. Even after the Human-Covenant war is over it is clear that tensions are still high. The Elites are busy killing the Brutes, the Jackals are still out there, the Insurectionnists are still going strong. There is still so much for the Spartans to kill and they will continue fighting until they are all dead and gone.

  • 05.16.2011 1:06 PM PDT

they will do exactly what they were made to do. they were created before the human/covenant war with the purpose being rebel control and to help fight those who stand against the UNSC. So that is what they will do, just because one enemy is gone doesnt mean another isn't right behind ready to take its place

Elites and humans have a cease fire. Brutes are fighting among themselves making the Elites have an easier time.

Jackals could give a -blam!- about the great journey or humans. They'll mind themselves, maybe popping up randomly as pirates or the rare merchant.

Rebels and UNSC could also give a -blam!- about each other. Any rebels that actually survived would be in the outer colonies, happily isolated in their bases cause the UNSC isn't bothering them. Likewise, the UNSC wouldn't bother chasing down and trying to find rebel bases, and would be focused on rebuilding.

Overall, right after halo 3 was a relatively peaceful time for humanity.

for a time sure i'd bet thered be peace and what not... but humanity as whole is a violent people and there would be fighting again soon enough. the spartans may have some time off if you will but they will always be needed

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

I'd love for Spartans to get a well-deserved break, but letting them out into the general population could be messy, especially when random strangers start asking questions.

ya but out of armor i doubt anyone would recognize them for what they were... unless they did decide to walk around downtown in the full battle suits haha

Eh, The Spartans wouldn't let classified information get out. I honestly think they can retire. (an rp character of mine is one who's gone through a lot of -blam!-, and retired officially from the UNSC. Bar random engineering jobs for the UNSC and watching for rebels for ONI, she's out of the military)

  • 05.16.2011 4:05 PM PDT

I started up the heated debate on whether the SPARTAN-II in the cryo tube near the end of Reach is really Linda.
I created the Moa XING avatar pic.
Also I earned the All Star nameplate with this submission to Week 14 All Stars http://www.bungie.net/images/News/Inline11/bwu_0415/art/likea boss.jpg

There have been only 2 cases where Spartans were discharged. One was Maria. It is believed that she is the Spartan that was too injured for battle mentioned by Halsey. But she says she wanted to start up a family.
Ralph had some psychological problems after seeing his flash-clone, so he was discharged and "adopted" by a family. He had some issues but eventually rejoined the UNSC as a standard soldier.

Imagine if they suffer a break down and go on the rampage..that would be messy.
