I will be dissapointed if they decide to follow Chief after H3, for H4.
After all: he is stranded on an unkown planet which is most likely to only feature Sentinels and Flood. Dull grey architecture is a given, since it is most likely a Forerunner version of Coruscant from Star Wars.
Then there is also the lack of any classic Halo characters except for Cortana. Worst of all: no Covenant, at least: not likely in such a remoted part of the galaxy.
And to top that: no UNSC weapons or vehicles (after all: Chief will run out of his very limited stock very soon) or anything else that is classic and iconic to Halo.
Because I honestly don't think that planet is Onyx and we will hook up with Blue Team and Katana....which would also result in just Sentinals in a lone, empty sphere....
Best thing is if 343i would have the balls to do something new with Halo "4" (technically 5, as MS regards Reach as the 4th Halo). With the director of Brothers in Arms on board, I'd say make it a mixture of BiA with classic Halo.
In other words: playable like what we're used to, until you find yourself in overwhelming situations (Wraiths, Hunters etc etc) where a light-cover system can be used (of course you can also use this whenever you want, but against foes like Hunters, Wraiths, Brutes and waves of suicide Grunts like in the books, this would be more "realistic" and a fresh breath of air to the series).
Make it a "prequel" of some sorts about Chief during his Blue Team days. Give us minor squad controls (OPTIONAL Kinect usage for squad control via gesture/voice controls) and throw in the Insurrection as the third party.
Halo has a lot of blank spaces that can be filled in. And continuing Chiefs story would be better fit for a book to be honest.
