Subject: Is anyone else a little pessimistic towards a Halo 4?

did we ever specify that all the covenant are dead? i feel like there could still be plenty of grunts jackals and brutes around and there are always tons of prophets ready to stand up. i mean we dont know for sure the covenant are gone only that we probably wont be fighting any more elites besides we still dont even know what planet we saw at the end of halo 3 legendary

1. The Covenant has disbanded with the only real fighting occurring between Elites and Brutes. The Jackals don't care and would rather go off being pirates and merchants. The Grunts have no real means of fighting since they lack any real disciple and leadership.

2. Only 1000 Prophets are left as a species, they can;t do anything.

fair enough lol wasnt totally sure

also, what if that planet we saw at the end of H3 turns out to be some remote planet with some crazy new race on it that MC has to fight his way off of somehow (no clue what the race could be) and then finally managing to make it back to human controlled space learns of a flood outbreak or some other brute activity taking place... idk doesnt seem like much but could be all they have

would also be cool to see the remaining blue team make an appearance following the books they are alive at least so that could be something fun to see

RED BRICK STUDIOS!

If time travel is involved, Chief better end up someplace he can't screw the series up; sometime like 1942.

The Covenant are still as strong as ever. Remember the description for assembly?

Bull-blam!-. The Brutes are scattered and facing in-fighting yet again and are being killed off by the Elites. The Elites are in a state of difficulty because they now have no purpose and their own Covenant ships are starting to break and they can't fix them.

The Covenant is done.

Glory and fame, blood is our name!
Souls full of thunder, hearts of steel!
Killers of men, a warrior's friend!
Sworn to avenge our fallen brothers!
Sons of the gods, today we shall die.
Open Valhalla's door!
Let the battle begin, with swords in the wind! Hail Gods of War!

But there is no indication of a Spartan type person in the distant past in Halo canon to indicate that is what Master Chief did.

I think Titanium would decay by 100,000 years time.

Ok here it is.

"The Covenant war machine continues its march to conquest; even with its head severed it is still dangerous"

I usually tend to believe that the descriptions for multiplayer maps are canon.

The war machine's head, as in the Elites. After they defected, the Covenant still marched on.

You have your map, I'll take the other sources of canon saying other wise.

I always took that statement literally, i.e on some far-flung planet in the Covenant empire the factory continues to build Scarabs because no one told them not to, even though the forces they are built for don't exist anymore.

i doubt that halo 4 will involve more human on covenant engagements because humans were currently rebuilding and it would be pretty dull if they came back because we almost were beaten into the ground

Kind of like a future equivalent to the Battle of New Orleans that America won the day after the official end of the Mexican-American War :D

I'm interested to see what 343i does, quite alot of possibilities, as everyone here has stated. But theres always that one thing that feel's 'right' that each Halo sequel gave me, hope to see it with Halo 4.

KIWIZ RULE THE WORLD!

Its just that nobody knows it yet...

I reckon the forunners are defiantly going to be involved but what state their civilization is gonna be in (war, destroyed, prospering, etc) who knows?

The most logical choice would be Onyx, where Chief would open the Shield World and free Halsey and the Spartans inside.

I wouldn't rule out fighting rogue covenant along the way though.

You were totally and absolutely correct in every way, I don't know why we were arguing, you're so amazing I should never have doubted you.

I'm more concerned about the gameplay. With Sage gone and Frankie back in action though, I'm not too worried.

As for story, I hope the writers that worked on Reach are replaced with people that can, you know, actually write.

With the Covenant disbanded, and Gravemind defeated, will there be any adversary to fight? The bread and butter of Halo has always been fighting grunts, jackals, hunters, and elites/brutes. If indeed a Halo 4 is made, I feel like there won't be anyone to fight, and the game would be more of an exploration/discovery game. What are your thoughts? Maybe the Forerunners will return as enemies?

You must not be aware of the nearly 50 other stories in the haloverse

  • 05.17.2011 11:45 AM PDT

I will be dissapointed if they decide to follow Chief after H3, for H4.
After all: he is stranded on an unkown planet which is most likely to only feature Sentinels and Flood. Dull grey architecture is a given, since it is most likely a Forerunner version of Coruscant from Star Wars.
Then there is also the lack of any classic Halo characters except for Cortana. Worst of all: no Covenant, at least: not likely in such a remoted part of the galaxy.
And to top that: no UNSC weapons or vehicles (after all: Chief will run out of his very limited stock very soon) or anything else that is classic and iconic to Halo.

Because I honestly don't think that planet is Onyx and we will hook up with Blue Team and Katana....which would also result in just Sentinals in a lone, empty sphere....

Best thing is if 343i would have the balls to do something new with Halo "4" (technically 5, as MS regards Reach as the 4th Halo). With the director of Brothers in Arms on board, I'd say make it a mixture of BiA with classic Halo.
In other words: playable like what we're used to, until you find yourself in overwhelming situations (Wraiths, Hunters etc etc) where a light-cover system can be used (of course you can also use this whenever you want, but against foes like Hunters, Wraiths, Brutes and waves of suicide Grunts like in the books, this would be more "realistic" and a fresh breath of air to the series).
Make it a "prequel" of some sorts about Chief during his Blue Team days. Give us minor squad controls (OPTIONAL Kinect usage for squad control via gesture/voice controls) and throw in the Insurrection as the third party.

Halo has a lot of blank spaces that can be filled in. And continuing Chiefs story would be better fit for a book to be honest.

I think the game will continue MC's story. But I don't think ther will be a fight agains't the Forerunners or MC. If there's any left.

That and the fact fighting the forerunners wouldn't make sense nor would it be a true sense of awe.
