There have been several users online recently doing stupid things... a good example of which being Davester88. I'm just wondering what kind of punishment the mods can inflict on these people... the IP banning hasn't come into effect. So you can snip and edit posts and ban accounts, anything else? And is there an extent to which they must break the rules in order to incur such wrath?

IP banning will never be used here because it doesn't work.

That's not to say that the team don't have any evil plans to deal with spammers...

Having your Gamertag banned from b.net would be punishment enough.

What would that mean, that just the link is broken? Or that you actually can't play Xbox Live anymore...

You can still use XBL to its fullest, but you'll be unable to use all the cool b.net features, like clans and stats.

I see.

P.S. That would suck. I'm happy I'm not a spammer.

Technically, you won't be able to use XBL to its fullest if your gamertag is banned. Things such as stats and emblems and whatnot are connected to bungie.net services, which means you won't be able to use them.

I don't count b.net as part of XBL.

How does bungie knows what your gamertag is if you dont have it linked? I mean, all those banned people have to do is make a new account.

That's the evil part.

I would imagine that the leap would be to make some forums "public" as in anyone with a .Net linked to a b.net account may post. Other forums, would require a b.net account with an associated gamertag in order to enjoy the forum.

Just rampant speculation on my part, I could be (and am quite used to being) completely wrong.

Then the people who dont have XBL coudln't participate int he froums.

I like where this is going. ^_^

Perhaps a XBL subscription as a prerequisate is not such a bad idea. Kind of a last resort thing, but these are desperate times. It will be getting worse before it gets better, and sometimes the clubhouse needs stricter rules.

Along these lines, I would think that all .net passport membership applications sans Gamertag attachment won't go through. Everyone who has an account already GT or no, gets to stay because it will be easy enough to filter out troublemakers and slowly reduce their numbers.
I can only see good things that can come of this.

oooooo that sounds very evil, I like you

Now my friend used MY gamertag on the xbox.com forums and it pissed me off BIG TIME. I almost got my acount banned because of his spamming. I had to contact them to let them know he was giving false information, how he got my credit card number, I don't know.. but it scares me to this day.

If it becomes so you need a gamertag to register, that alienates people (like me, for example) who don't have broadband and therefore don't have Live. This is not the way to go.
