What's with Bugnie and religion. The entire Covenant terminology is based off of Christianity and Islam.

1. The prophets are the leaders similar to the Old Testament in the Bible.

2. Halo-Angels

3. Great Journey-similat to the Jihad (Holy War) in Islam

4. The Ark-In the Bible the Ark is what saves humanity from God's wrath but in Halo the Ark saves all living beings from the flood.

5.The covenant-The Biblical covenant is between God and his people, stating that if they choose Him as their God, he will make them prosper. In Halo, the covenant is an alliance of aliens who have pledged to activate the Halo rings.

6. The flood-In the Bible the flood is used to judge humanity for their sins and only a few people survive. In Halo, the flood was an unstoppbale power that destroyed forerunners and is similar to the tribulation mentioned in Revelation.

7. Bungie constantly uses the number seven. 7 rings, 7th column, 2552-2+5+2+5=14 a multiple of seven. In Christianity 7 is God's holy number. It is even incorporated into our daily life with 7 days a week which started in Creation.

There are several other minor parodies between Halo and religion but they are not worth mentioning. By making the covenant the enemy they are portraying religion as evil. What do they have against religion?

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

They aren't saying religion is evil. You just fight a collective of aliens who have misinterpreted the actions of the Forerunners and turned it into a religion, which the top Prophets abuse to kill us because we violate the foundations of the religion.

Because that never happens in real life amongst us humans right?

The profit of truth is another word for Mohammed.

In reference to the Covenant, the religious wording makes sense because their alliance is driven primarily by their religion.

The religious terms used to describe the various Forerunner facilities stem from the fact that their actual names are translated, and the religious wording provides a good frame of reference.

True, it does happen a lot. But we can't know if they are bashing religion or the misuse of relion for personal gain.

I just found the similarities between the names of things and what they are used for pretty cool.

Numerous authors throughout history, including Shakespeare, have made Biblical allusions in his work. Bungie is doing the same thing. They don't say "Such and such religion is bad".

Seriously, is it that hard to comprehend?

The Covenant waging war symbolizes the Crusades, and how zealots misinterpret religion. It is not hating religion. Also, a very important reference you forgot is Master Chief as Jesus, sacrificing himself and returning again at Judgement.

I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

Ignorance is what they are portraying as evil; I can't say I'm surprised, though, how you seem to have confused religion with ignorance...

Given that your topic of discussion is essentially "Why is Halo bashing religion?" and given that that view is a result of your misunderstanding of the situation, I think it would be best to simply end the discussion before feelings are hurt and bans are levied.

That role fits both the Arbiter and the Chief (Hint: Thel is crucified, "dies," returns some days later as the religious savior of his civilization.)

Arbiter is the religious Jesus by dispelling the lies that ignorance has blinded the people with (killing Truth) and ushers in a new age of religious thought, MC is the warrior Jesus that fights the manipulator anti-christ (Gravemind) in Revelation. The two make a whole.

Really Halo is one of the deepest games I've ever seen, second being Bioshock (though I've never played it)

Actually, we don't. It's due to our being reclaimers.

The Ark & The Flood appear in myths because of the Halo event in humanity's prehistory. It's like that, not the other way around.

And every main character in every fiction ever written is always Jesus, so Halo's not special at all when it comes to that.

And no one can ignore the fact that the Covenant is a criticism on religion.
