If each person who replies would add to the following list, we might have a good basis on how to make good posts.

1.) Topic must be appealing to more than one person (i.e. yourself) - posted by Jthekk2

2.) Catchy Subject Title - posted by Jthekk2; I was being ridiculous with my titles. Even if the title is silly, the content of the post can still be high quality. In all seriousness, this is a decent technique to get people to view what you wrote. Of course the title would be best if it had some relativity to the actual thread - posted by DMetalDragon

3.) Moderately long first post, but not too long to deter people from reading. - posted by Jthekk2

4.) Correct Spelling/Grammar - posted by Psyched

5.) If a thread's only purpose is to whine and flame...don't post it - posted by the squee masta

6.) the So What test: The Test involves why would it be in this forum and who would really care about it. There is no shortage of gripes about matchmakeing and cheating threads in Zanzibar. You might want to start a difrent thread if you want it to be sucessful. - posted by marinealver

7.) Use regular paragraphing in longer posts to 'break it up', and make it more managable. - posted by l iam117 l

8.) It helps to be creative or to pick a topic that a lot of people care about. Also, anything that is not mainstream (i.e. only a few people know about it) will probably get ignored. - posted by natedogr

9.) Posting a thread in the form of a question sometimes helps get people's attention - posted by natedogr

10.) And once every one started making that one type of thread, people would get tired of it - (don't post something that's already been posted and heavily discussed; i.e. the "if halo 3 were made...arbiter" post, which was duplicated with the same exact title) make sure what you are posting has not alreay been discussed/flamed - posted by natedogr, with additions by Jthekk2

11.) Sometimes complaints about cheaters can do very well of grabbing attention. Or maybe complaints about Bungie. Complaints about Halo 2 can often do well. - posted by Mabian

12.) Remember to keep sarcasim in the replys like this guy does here. A sarcastic first post won't get you anywhere - posted by marinealver

13.) Try posting a thread when you have a better chance of members who give good replys being online - posted by Poocho

[edit] up to 13 (Poocho's Post) <= this is just to remind where i am in the list, so don't worry if your idea isn't up yet...

I'm not really sure why this is needed. People can figure this out on their own if they really want to. I think you just wanted to make a "how to" post.

*grammar (sigh...)

But, ironically enough, "successful" (i.e. heavily replied to) threads often contain all manner of grammatical atrocities, and precious little content.

To Make Posts is Glorious

Some threads will get posts before others and it is the duty of the Leadership to ensure that posts are made that best suit the public welfare.

"heh"

Also, use common sense. If a thread's only purpose is to whine and flame...

Don't post it for God's sake.

In order to create the a successful thread, try these few steps for great results!

1) Titles like Teh Baest Poste Evre!! are key to your success.

3) You must add a subject body with breath taking grammar, spelling, and high quality content! Ex. Halo3 muts comn hout casue we whant a cole gam. Bungi nic mac grate gams we whant it pleeez!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2) Thinking before you make any post is a sure way to get assassinated by a ninja! Whatever comes to your mind, post it immediately without waiting to construct a complete idea. Make sure there is no logic behind your posts!

Follow these simple steps and the Bungie community will love you forever!

There is a lot of diversity found in what threads get a lot of responses. It helps to be creative or to pick a topic that a lot of people care about. Also, anything that is not mainstream (i.e. only a few people know about it) will probably get ignored.

Unfortunately, posts on serious topics often lead to flame battles or get ignored. Of course, a medium sized first post can help.

Posting a thread in the form of a question sometimes helps get people's attention.

Any smallest thing beneath yon rock out of men's knowing. Only nature can enslave man and only when the existence of each last entity is routed out and made to stand naked before him will he be properly suzerain of the earth."

There is no formula to a successful thread. The forums are fickle. One day I make a thread about strategy, and one person replies. The next day someone else will make a thread about strategy, and they'll get 100 total replies before the thread sinks down. The topic is not always the key. Length can often mean nothing, with long threads getting just as many replies as short ones.

Naturally, really dumb threads seem to draw more attention for two reasons: The creator usually bumps it to get attention, and other members post in it to get attention themselves. (After all, did you really need to come and say "Banned in 3...2...1..."?)

So you can't make a thread following some laid out plans and expect it to do well. You have to make your thread, and pray to the forum gods that it doesn't crash down and sink through the Lost Pages.

There may be guidelines, suggestions for making a good thread but of course there is no magical formula or rule. And once every one started making that one type of thread, people would get tired of it. However, some threads have a better chance than others.

Actually I wouldn't even agree with that. Well, to a degree anyways. Sometimes complaints about cheaters can do very well of grabbing attention. Or maybe complaints about Bungie. Complaints about Halo 2 can often do well. But in all of these cases, there is only a chance.

A better way to think of it is probability. For everything you throw in: Content, topic, thread length, etc., you have a certain probability of having a successful thread. A well-written thread of a fair length about strategy in Zanzibar has a higher probability of being successful than a one word thread about absolutely nothing with a topic like "READ THIS NOW!!!!!!" in the same forum will have a lower probability. But I have seen threads that should not be successful take off like rockets, and threads that should be constantly on the front page sink down in a few seconds.

Probability and factors. There is no formula, and there is no guarantee. In the end, it's luck, not the work behind the thread, that counts.

The best thread titles are ones like Bungie says that..... or something like BLAMZORZ!

Both of titles give away very little of the actual content, and therefore make you curious enough to suck you into the vortex of postageness.

In the future, forums will be designed so that if threads are just stupid, other members won't be able to reply to them. That way forums won't have threads that shouldn't be there with 20 replies until a moderator comes to lock them. And it certainly makes a moderator's job easier.

if it wouldn't be too much of a bother, can u please number each new part of the list, so it's easy to find on the thread.

If it wouldn't be much of a bother, just edit your first post and add any aditions. That way people can see all the suggestions to date.

I usually try to start threads on serious things if possible. Unfortunately, they normally get buried too quickly under countless repetitive threads about cheating and the like. I did that a few days ago on what I think is an important issue, and that's what happened. I'll just have to create excitement for it through other means.

You could also try posting a thread when you have a better chance of members who give good replys being online.

Just my thoughts,
Poocho :)

yea, serious posts don't go anywhere unless you post them at either the right time, or so many people have posted about the topic that they reply just to flame you.

I try a wide variety of threads that are at times funny and sometimes serious. Unfortunately, the serious ones attract flamers and also heated political and religious discussions.
