They took genetic samples/ preserved bodies of other races so they could rebuild after the war. Why didn't they preserve themselves? I know of the shield worlds.

<(-_-)> Teh mokey is not amused

I'm guessing they were punishing themselves for activating halo.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Who's to say they didn't?

They are actually Jorge's ancestors.

They chose to sacrifice themselves by activating Halo, but didn't eradicate the flood.

Perhapse something went wrong, they had to forward the plan before it was too late and activate the Halo's before they where safe.
Who's to say they didn't anyway? The universe is vast, the flood came from unknown space, what was there to stop the forerunners from traveling beyond there know limits? Then keep traveling?

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

In all honesty we just assume they didn't. For all we know they've relocated to some other galaxy.

I thought the forerunners were human ancestors, so wouldn't that make us the forerunnners?

Actually not. The Forerunners believed they were inheritors of "The Mantle", or the responsibility to protect and preserve all life, and to rule the galaxy. The Mantle was supposedly handed down by the mysterious Precursors. However they found out that the Precursor had intended this responsibility to be handed down to the Humans, not the Forerunner.

To elaborate on this further, the Precursor's made the Forerunner's but the Forerunner's rose against their creators long before they took up the mantle.

The forerunner's did in some attempts try to save themselves from what you can infer from Cryptum but chances are, they died out either during the Halo array firing, or simply died from the weathering of time.

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

It has been confirmed for years now that some forerunners did indeed survive and relocated elsewhere.

If you're not dead, you're fine. It's when you're dying that you need to worry.

The games and even the animated Halo: Legends, say that the Forerunners, after reseeding life, retreated to the one planet they still had. After that, seeing as how their job was done, they retreated beyond KNOWN space. No one said they died off or anything, they only know that they disappeared.

left the galaxy one would guess, similar to the exile of the Ancients in Stargate, left their home galaxy because of hostilities between themselves and the Ori.

It's like a gigantic snowball, rolling down a mountain, eating kids on the way.

Maybe they did, maybe they didn't.

For all we know, they could've been a Lemming style'd community that committed mass suicide.

I see, like the fate of the Asgard in Stargate as well.
