"A LIE is a LIE"

- Truly intelligent and deep Black ops trailer

I think it would be pretty cool if you played an ODST on installation 04 when the flood gets released.

It could start with you "hell-jumping" from the POA on to Halo - This drop pod scene has the potential to be far more dramatic with ODST pods getting shot down and covenant ships engaging the POA. When you land you get to see key players such as Antonio Silva and Melissa McKay. There should be guerilla style missions on the covenant similar to the ones in CE.

When the flood gets released, it should start playing like a survival horror, where ammo would be scarce and health would be low. You would need to sneak past fights with the covenant and the flood in large jungle/forest environments - similar to the size of the ODST map. The flood can kill you extremely easily, especially infection forms, as you are just a frail human.

Key places like the truth and reconciliation, alpha base and POA should also be featured.

I was thinking it would be a perfect companion with the CE remake.

Lol who?

Read "The Flood". And yes, that's a great idea OP.

Oh my dear Lord, my life would be complete.

A Halo horror game. But, instead of having it with the events of CE, I'd rather see a more "Mona Lisa" story. Have ODSTs investigate a ship or something. The Flood is there. But, they need to make the Flood much scarier. I'm sorry, but fighting The Flood in halo games have never been scary to me. But, if they make it like "Mona Lisa", then it'll be awesome because that was a amazing Flood story, that scared me more then any visual in the games.

They commanded and co-ordinated the 100+ ODST on halo.

Read the flood/Halo wiki for details

Sounds like Dead Space. Which is good, I love that game. I just looked up the mona lisa on Halo wiki and I love that idea.

Let's be honest, it could be a lot worse.

Stupid storry, awsome game.

Did I even mention a story?

  • 05.18.2011 3:40 PM PDT

"We knew the world would not be the same.
A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent.
I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita.
Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and to impress him takes on his multi-armed form and says,
'Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds...'
I suppose we all thought that one way or another."
- J. Robert Oppenheimer

Hm. This is actually not a bad idea.

I think for the player character they could use Corporal Locklear, 'cause I don't like playing games where the protagonist dies without any sense of accomplishment. If they did make a game like that decided to kill the player off, then they had better make him/her die for a good reason, such as holding the Flood off while the Pelican holding Johnson and the other human survivors from First Strike escapes or some such.

You should get Halo Evolutions and read it. Or at least read it at the store so you don't have to buy the whole thing. It's my favorite written Halo story. It's just amazing. Not even exaggerating. I was a big fan of that story.

There is a certain point of tolerance that should never be reached.

CE was scary. I was -blam!- 10 years old. I shat a brick.

i've just been thinking about this exact idea. but i thought something like 20 years after the war when humanity starts re-colonizing, the ODSTs(led by Buck) find a crashed ship on an ex-human colony. The Flood on the Ship have slowly been re-building a Gravemind, and once the ODSTs arrive, the flood manage to reactivate the ship. While on its course to Earth, the ODSTs must destroy the ship before the Gravemind is reborn.

Bungie Pentathlon - who actually cares ?

Sounds like a great idea - I would certainly give it a spin !

  • 05.19.2011 12:17 AM PDT

Yes!

  • 05.19.2011 12:36 AM PDT

Nah, rather a two sided story.

1: focussing on Buck and the original ODST team trying to defend Reach. Showing an actual urban invasion. Like Exodus but a lot bigger. More glassing going on etc etc. Finally being picked off by Noble 6 in the last level and brought to safety. Buck being the leader, I would want some minor squad controls here (go there, attack X)

2: Focussing on Rookie and his previous squad, on a mission that goes wrong, with all his comrades dying one by one. More like the classic Halo experience, with the story setup like Reach' but more emotional. Focussing more on Brutes perhaps? Finally showing some real gritty and brutal warfare facing big bad ass Brutes like in the books.
End with Rookie being the sole survivor and going mute thanks to PTSD trauma etc.

So a prequel to ODST.

I like the ODST prequel idea, but I just don't find Rookie interesting enough. I also think having the flood as an enemy while being a frail ODST can make for the interesting survival horror kind of gameplay.

That is because Rookie doesn't speak ;) But this story would be revolving around how Rookie was before he lost his ability to speak.

As for a survival horror Halo: nice idea. But it would be the Mona Lisa as a game. Press and gamer response will be: Alien/Dead Space rip off...

Only IGNorant would be that stupid. Halo has had the flood for 10 years, and I think FPS gameplay totally changes the style from Dead-space's 3rd person stuff.

Frigates are small, I think Halo would be better location simply for gameplay.

Mona lisa may make a good Story in a book, but as a game, I don't think it would be as engaging or as interesting as large open jungles and forerunner complexes.

Seeing as how the ODSTs don't have the armor that the spartans do, obviously they would be more prone to infection by the flood, which would require them to sneak around at a slower pace like in the original ODST.

I was thinking that it could take place on the Ark as the original cast could be further developed that way. Plus ODST put more emphasis on exploration and the Ark would be a great place to explore. I'm sure they could have another Sadie's story type side-story using forerunners and terminals again too.

Indeed, I think covenant and forerunner terminals would be awesome. There should also be flood infected terminals that give an insight into the mind of gravemind during the Forerunner-Flood war, maybe even Mendicant bias quotes (without the annoying green-screen of halo 3)

These terminals should contain audio and video as-well as text.
