I hope this isn't the wrong forum to ask. But in any other I'll get buried by trolls complaining.

Which in your opinion is better to watch/make,
1. A machinima Movie ( anywhere from 10 - 30minutes),
2. A machinima series,
3. A machinima trilogy,

Which in your opinion is better to watch / make?

Personally I wouldn't make a machinima series because you would want a really good story/characters/atmosphere, ect.

That's my opinion, I'm not going to make a machinima series in the future, probably a trilogy because it would leave some time in between each part.

And when making a new machinima, I'll be able to make new characters and story. Which is what I love doing. And is a super strong point for me when writing.

I made this thread to see what you guys think before I make any final decisions.

I'm a forger. I'm British. I love Halo.

Will I like machinima movies and series but they have to be epic, interesting, good story e.g.
Do not have to make a long series like Red vs blue for example, you can carry on the same character without overloading thinking of a different one.

But trilogy you could make new characters and story, and I am not interested so much in shorts. Thats just my opinion, but it is alot easlier.

They all got their own postives and negatives, I go for shorts for you as a start.

I'm Looking For The Flag!
What The Heck Is Assualt!?"

Do shorts, dramatic machinima is near impossible. Just look at Red vs. Blue? The greatest machinima team on the planet [citation needed] and yet still their dramatic elements seem to fall short.

A series/trilogy. Its not that I don't have the attention span for a movie, its just I don't have the time.

In my opinion they are better not only because they are more manageable in length, but they also have the effect of anticipation on the viewer.

I assume this is to do with your Jun machinima? Good luck with it, I hope you find my opinion valuable.

Personally? Whatever captures the story you are trying to tell best.

For example, the RvB episodes do well split up into short episodes, however something like The Forgotten Spartans does well by having "Parts" released which are rather large in length and advance the story, whereas I like to just make one big long movie so my story isn't broken and fragmented.

Really depends on the situation, and what you like to do best. Some people do series so they can stop them at anytime, where in a full movie, if you're half way through and you decide you don't want to make it anymore, you've just wasted half a movie's worth of work.

I would write out a story and see which one it fits the best. A Machinima movie often have bad pacing, while a trilogy normally has huge gaps between each installment. As for a series, you need to have characters and settings that people wont get bored of as well as solid narrative structure to keep a strong super objective while keep a constant case of disequilibrium despite the fact that most episodes should end on a high point.

Save Cortana

eh, i mean it's really up to you: your time, patience, etc., etc., etc. if it were up to me, the videos could be short sweet.
it's much harder to make a machinima series because you have to use technology to do the heavy lifting for you. movements have to be precise or else talking looks wrong.
your idea is good too, and if you wanna do it go for it. you should probably finish two of the three before submitting them. that way you can ensure that you'll have enough time to make the third before the other two are posted.
also, creating a good posting time is important. (making sure the videos are spaced out so there's enough time for you to make the second, but also ensure that your audience isn't waiting too long for the next to come out.)

long, sorry, but hopefully it helped at least a little. just have a good schedule and good chunk of free time and you should be good. good luck!
