xBox Live reps encouraged me to go online to xBox Live Matchmaking through the Halo Reach interface. During my first experience in Slayer firefight, I received this message.
INFORMATION Xbox 360 console has been temporarily banned from earning credits. Bungie ban.
I played solo offline for several months getting ready to go online. I am new to online Halo Reach matchmaking, and certainly want to establish a good reputation and increase my scores and Halo Spartan rank. But this unexpected credit ban troubles me. Why am I being penalized as a new player? What did I do wrong? This is not a good welcome to online gaming. I am being penalized for something I know nothing about. Keep in mind, I am a new customer to xBox 360, xBox Live, Halo Reach, and Bungie online gaming so for what it is worth, electronic gaming.
Halo Reach was something new and exciting for me. when I finally went online, I got into a Halo Reach lobby called Slayer and was wiped out, unable to keep up with very skilled players. After playing for several hours, I got that onscreen message saying my xBox console was temporarily banned from earning credits. The ban was lifted the next day, so I went back into online matchmaking for two other lobbies, Sniper and Invasion. After several more hours I got the same message. I thought it would go away but it still comes up when I sign in, and has been there for the last several days.
I called xBoxLive about this information notice, and they referred me to Bungie ban website to see what may have caused this temporary ban. I thought I would be able to enter my gamer tag on the Bungie website and find an explanation but there is nothing specific, just a lot of generic information about code of conduct, bans, how long they typically last, and that they cannot be appealed. As a new player looking for an explanation as to what I may have done wrong, I did not find the Bungie Ban website to be helpful. I contacted the Bungie webmaster about this, and received a canned statement about bans.
Having read all information on bans, I still do not know what, if anything, I did wrong. There is no explanation as to what was done wrong, and no means of inquiring about what triggered this temporary ban. Is there a bug in this automatic banning program? This is like receiving a traffic ticket and not being told what for, or what you did wrong. This Bungie game ban practice is very depressing and gives new gamers no incentive to return to Bungie online. Why play for zero points?
Attention Bungie game moderator, forum administrator, and Bungie game designers, the Bungie HammerBan needs a design improvement wherein players can enter their gamer tag and get information as to why they were banned from earning credits, and how long the ban will be imposed. When you penalize a gamer, feedback on what they did wrong is a must.
