Reach. And don't even start that "true fans" bull-blam!-, you don't know what you're talking about.
you sir can be quiet.
i vote halo 2. as a stand alone game, it woukd have worked, with good narative, character developement and gameplay. as a sequel, it works even better as the character development is more a continuation of what started in CE..
halo reach on the other hand as a prequel i cant stand. seeing as how there is already existing canon ect for that EXACT time period in the halo universe example A and this game fits into it about as well as a gameboy cartridge fits into a disc drive. example B.
halo reach also falls down as unlike CE and H2 the campaign is not that compelling, there is not alot of character developement, for a story of crushing defeat, the ending is rather triumphant...
but i will admit, yes i can play both sides of the fence, as a stand alone game, its story line is, ok at best. its character developement is, i'll let you finish that sentance. its gameplay is unfortunately unimaginative. except the part with the orbital combat, that was good. but the whole idea of being part of a spartan team, why was it that in almost every mission it was just you and one other spartan? (if any).
now if your argument is about MP, then yes, reach has more that you can do, more game types, more vehicles, more options, theatre, forge, firefight. but despite all this, both H2 and reach have the same major floor, the BR and the DMR, (yes i know they're different weapons)
both a medium/long range weapon, with good accuracy, one a random bullet spread with a 3round burst the other has a recoil based accuracy penalty (bloom) but yet, often you find this medium/long range weapon is able to stand up again short/medium range weapons at short range... and in reach the DMR is capable of taking down vehicles (with co-ordinated fire from multiple players for hevier vehicles. because my tank is so piss poor armored that small arms fire can strip armor plates and make me explode...
vehicular combat is as such very different in the two games, in H2 vehicles are effectively a power weapon, when used properly, only effectively countered by other power weapons or co-ordinated assaults, not 2/3 player spraying with a spawn weapon. whereas in reach vehicles are more often just armed taxis fullfilling a limited combat roll as they are not able to take what they can give in punishment.
then we have armor abilities, these are the evolution of one-use power-ups such as the bubble shield and grav-lift which are themseves evolutions of the simple OS/AC power ups the problem is that depending on the map certain AAs are rendered almost useless, jet packing on hemorage where the only thing stopping you getting crossmapped by DMRs is the ground your stood on, and other than making yourself very visible to get a better view of your target theres not alot of reason to use it. while they do add a different level of tactical gameplay involed with correctly applying your chosen AA and countering the opponent's. they also allow less skilled player to stack up against more skilled players while not offering as much of an advantage to the more skilled player, armor locking when you and your now dead teammate have been succesfully ambushed by a better player, who is now realoding as the killing blow bounced futily off your imperviously thick skull you can unlock and open fire finishing off the player who should have and deserved to have killed you both.
as far as graphics go, i can still enjoy CE, granted the graphics are a decade outdated, but the game itself is good.
so as a whole the brute simplicity of H2's MP gameplay and its excelent campaign make it IMO the better game than reach's flawed, yet pimped out MP and rather disapointing campaign.
What were you saying about true-fans? or do i not count?
