Subject: So I just bought Halo 2...any advice for taking on the campaign?

So I just completed the trilogy by buying Halo 2. Obviously I know that I'm late to the game since original Xbox games are no longer supported through Xbox Live. However, I decided to buy the game for the campaign, which I have played through a couple or few times. Anyways, I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on how to fight against each species of the Covenant (Elites, Jackals, Hunters, Brutes, etc.)? Any advice on how to deal with the Flood would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Playing Legendary?

halo 2 still the best game in the series. long live halo 2.

Dam, I miss the old days playing halo 2 with my old brothers in arms. Thank you my old friends for giving me this account, I shall continue our legacy.

On legendary always keep a plasma pistol on hand, it is your best friend when facing the elites on legendary. Never get close to a elite ultra, they will take their energy swords out and they will cut you down instantly. Their shields can take a great deal of punishment, so keep a plasma pistol with you and a battle rifle to kill them fast and efficiently.

And remember jackal snipers can instantly kill you from any angle, good luck and remember to think with your head and don't let your anger guide you when facing jackal snipers. Going crazy in Halo 2 also works, so try it when your stuck at a part on legendary.

Halo 2 for Life!

Yeah, that's a good idea since it's been a long time since I've played the campaign. I just started on Normal today, in fact. I don't think it'd be wise to start on Legendary on the first run, I'd probably throw my 360 out the window from frustration haha. I also just bought Mass Effect, as I'm trying to see what all the praise is about, so I will probably be switching between that and Halo 2.

Alright, thanks, Jackal Snipers are my main concern since they're a pain in the ass, and I'm also worried about the Flood-infested levels.

l;abhrfiodj!!

Grunts- you shouldn't need help

Jackals- If normal just shot hand then head if sniper, memorize positions and head-shot quickly.

Drones- sniper works well. Wait until the drone lands if you can. Focus fire on one at a time. Make sure you have cover all around you. They like to attack all at once in large groups

Hunters- Aim for orange parts and unload as many shots as you can. Don't get too close. Sniper works well

Elites-Plasma pistol, head shot. Really that's all you need. If you don't have a head shot weapon, use plasma to take down shields then use human weapons to finish the job

Brutes- Head-shot them until the helmet comes off and then head shot them again and they are gone. Also needlers work well on them. Also they have no shields and don't heal. If you need to take your time popping in and out of cover and shooting them with a few shots every now and then. They will eventually fall.

Flood- Most areas with them you can run through. Use active camo to help with this. Otherwise sword works well. Use the sword, needler, granades to eliminate flood bodies which will prevent them from getting back up. You can "head-shot" them by aiming for the infection form in their chest.

Sentinels- Plasma works well. Watch out for the EMP burst they do. Use their own weapons against them

Enforcers- Try to ignore unless you can't. Kill them by getting around their shields. You can stick them with grandees.

Vehicles- Hijack and use better ones against them.

Yeah, that's pretty good Sam, the only thing I'll add is I use a Carbine against the flood whenever I can. Well, that and to note that you can shoot the snipers from farther away than they can shoot you so stay back if you can.

It is possible to commit no errors and still lose. That is not a weakness. That is life.

Best idea? Don't play on Legendary... Damned Jackals, man...

BLAM!

My best advice with the campaign has nothing to do with tactics lol.

I had a blast with H2 and personally consider it one of my favorites out of the whole series. That's because I played the campaign through countless times and explored every nook and cranny of each level.

There is a lot to discover and many different ways of getting around (example - I have a blast jumping onto and running along the rooftops [as opposed to running through the streets] in the 2nd mission).

TL:DR
My advice is to fully explore the levels.

Alright, thanks everyone. I'll use all of this advice for when I play on Legendary. Right now I'm about to start the fourth level (The Arbiter I believe), and the campaign should be relatively easy since I'm playing on Normal. Only Halo: CE and Halo 2 remain for the games I have yet to beat on Legendary. I beat the first two levels on CE on Legendary, but stopped at Into the Belly of the Beast on Truth and Reconciliation. Granted, I didn't have a sniper when I boarded the ship, so I will probably start all over haha.

  • 05.20.2011 7:31 PM PDT

You know who I am.

Know some jump tricks, and know the Ghost and the Spectre. You can use these to get out of the map and breeze through all the levels.
Halo 2's ability to glitch around the levels helped me define my love for the game.

Well... Jackals you shoot their arm so they flinch for an easy headshot. Elites i just unload on with my BR or if you want to waste less ammo take down their shields. Shoot the Brutes somewhere around 3 times in the head with a carbine... Hunters you just have to spam them with explosives or get behind them with a sniper or something. The Flood are tough as hell... they're a joke in Halo 3. Shotgun, Sword, Sentinel Beam (Blue one devastates), and explosives.

Imagine a triangle. It's perfect, but a little plain. You take a chisel, and carve a small decorative symbol into it to make it a little more interesting. People like it, but it could use a little more.

So you then take a sledgehammer..

Grunts- Headshot. Enough said.

Jackals- Aim for the area where their hand is exposed, and follow up with a headshot. For the snipers, find some cover, and go around it slowly. Headshot them, then duck back into cover.

Hunters- Remember to always strafe around them so they don't hit you. Stick them, and when they turn around use a sniper weapon, shotgun or anything you have on their orange worms.

Brutes- I like to use dual needlers or a headshot weapon against them. Don't EVER engage them in close combat, unless you have an energy sword. Even then, hit them once, back off, then hit them again. Sometimes they'll be wielding shotguns, so be cautious.

Drones-They can take more damage than in Halo 3/Reach, so take them out from afar using a BR or Carbine. It should take 2-3 shots/bursts to finish one.

Elites- PP overcharge followed up by a headshot weapon is your best bet. Also, if you melee an Elite Ultra (the white ones) he'll become enraged and draw out a sword, making it easier for you to kill him.

Alright, well I just beat the campaign on Normal with very little difficulty. I'm going to take a break from Halo 2 for now. I will probably make a thread for when I decide to take on Legendary, which I'm hoping to do sometime in the summer. But before that, I'd like to finish my Halo: CE Legendary run, as I left off on Truth and Reconciliation.

  • 05.24.2011 7:59 PM PDT

i am myself

on legendary shoot and hide dont get in vehicles

  • 05.27.2011 4:38 PM PDT

Yes. I am a Battle Rifle machine. The DMR is a poor replacement.

Same here! I've beaten every first person Halo game except for Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2.

Pretty good advice, if you want to you can (on the chief levels) you can practice quad shotting the elites too.

Hunters are actually quite easy on Halo 2, use a sniper in the head or other orange parts of them.

The Snipers arent that hard really, well they werent for me. Just use a sniper to take them out. Its actually decent practice for sniping for newer players. It works on your reaction time, quick scoping etc. Pointless now that you cant play it online but none the less its decent.

Brutes i dont even remember, but i do remember them being harder than Halo 3's brutes.

and have fun with the flood ;)

after you beat it on legendary, look up some videos for the skulls an try it with those :)

i am myself

always have plasma pistol and dont worry if your shields die then hide behind somthing cause they wont follow you around walls

  • 06.24.2011 2:27 PM PDT

Hanger one I just shredded with the SMGs until ammo was out and I just threw 'nades like a boss while BRing.

My experience playing Cairo Station on Legendary

Have fun! Really, most of you enjoyment will come from exploring the maps and trying to "Break" maps. For example, playing with a friend and having them die on the same spot about 20 times, then blowing up all the grenades at once while your vehicle is on top.

Also, try exploring the boundaries of Outskirts! This game has so much to offer.

Grunts - headshots, melee, frags, plasma grenades

Jackals - headshots, melee, frags, and more frags

Jackal Snipers - 360 vision, headshots, use beam rifle from fallen snipers whenever possible

Ultra Elites - exploit invincible AI whenever possible. Otherwise, n00b combo.

Hunters - get them to charge at you, they do their classic melee attack, you can crouch jump over them turn around and shoot them in the back

Drones - play it safe. Lure them closer if possible.

What do you need to do, you ask?

-BXR over the shotgun.
-Always take cover.
-Punch Regret in the Neck.
-Run through the second to last mission.
-Get on top of all the levels (which is easy).
-Don't play Cairo Station on Legendary until you are a veteran.

Those are just a few of my little tips. If you would like any explanations or questions answered just let me know, I would be happy to.
