I'm okay with one-shot Hunters. I always liked that. In my opinion Hunters should just come with some other AI like they come on The Maw. That way you can't immediately go behind and kill them.

Health packs should be changed. It's always annoying to be in a encounter and try to dodge that one health pack you can't even see lying on the ground.

Warthog could maybe have little more grip. Not much, just that it wouldn't slide as much but still some amount.

Other thing I would change is splatters done 2 kph. Splattering should be somewhat easy but not like that.

Other than those, I would like to keep it as original as possible.

There is plenty I want changed. But it is not my place to determine what is OK to change in a remake. Nobody can.

I agree with your part on the brutes if the went beserk i would start running for highground.
What i wouldnt want changed in this one is the different armor combinations the marines had little as it was though all the marines in the rest are basicaly the same and in the other i did not feel the urge to defend my men like i do in this one.
I also like the light when scoping with a sniper.

Though I would like a second campaign for the Marines if possible.

Wow! Thanks for pointing that out! We need all the vehicles improved. I want the vehicles to be like the ones in Halo 2 and Halo 3. Personally, I prefer that they be hijackable.
Congratulations, you have just attempted to nerf vehicles at close range and decreased the skill gap.

I'm not the one making the game so...

Matchmaking would be great in the remake. Vehicles that can be destroyed, hijacking, assassinations, most (if not all) weapons made throughout the series available and equipment/armour abilities would be good as well. The Marines campaign would be a it too far, but a Marine level if you complete the game on Legendary would be better.

I still want changes. I like what you suggested, hunters were far too easy. Also I would like vehicles that can be destroyed. One thing you did not touch on, I want the enemy vehicles to be boarded, that is now a need. I would like 3 armor abilites, sprint, active camo & overshield.

Please tell me you were joking about the armor abilities part. This is a Halo CE remake. There's a reason that there will never be a Reach remake.

THATS MY COOL MAN I CAN'T TAKE IT OFF!

After careful deliberation, I've come up with a list of minor alterations that I think would be acceptable in the remake:

-Online multiplayer is a given, absolutely no reason to do the remake otherwise. Includes co-op campaign.

-Bumper jumper controls (did not exist in CE).

-Basic forge mode that allows you to change weapon layout and place minor objects like crates and stuff.

-Experience-altering skulls hidden in campaign (posted my ideas in some big thread about potential CE skulls, wherever that is).

-Playing as an elite in multiplayer. Don't change them to fit later versions either.

-The one weapon from later titles that I wouldn't pitch a fit about if it was included in CE is the grenade launcher, only because it's very unlike any other weapon in this game for any other Halo. I think it could fit in well with gameplay (obviously max ammo would have to be increased to match the big ammo count of other weapons, which ABSOLUTELY SHOULD NOT be changed; 12's a good number IMO). supposedly a similar weapon (albeit covenant) was planned then scrapped for the original game anyway. Still far from sure about this though, I would rather see the original sandbox intact with no unwanted guests.

-All Halo PC content should be in there. Maps, weapons, and vehicles.

-Wouldn't mind seeing a couple of additional maps, besides the PC ones. Maybe give some consideration to the original Lockout Bungie had in mind, since Cage from what I've seen merely borrows from it.

-Mythic difficulty, or something higher than legendary.

-Allow passengers on the sides of tanks in multiplayer. I'm pretty sure this wasn't possible in the original.

-Make the flood nastier. I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority here, but IMO the flood were much more disturbing and disgusting in later titles, whereas in CE I thought they were just annoying and somewhat comical (the elites anyway). Things like live infection would accomplish this. Combat forms should also be more vulnerable to melees.

-More funny lines for grunts in campaign. If they change the hilarious grunts from CE into the apes we see in Reach, I will start clubbing baby seals.

-Primitive armor alteration like in Halo 3. None of the armory bullcrap.

-'Press [whatever] to use health pack' would be better, yes.

-A small update in graphics so that they're clearer and a bit sharper, that's it. No excessive luster, no texture wankery. I don't want to play Halo CE in Reach-face, or even Halo 3.

I think that's a fair list that would bring just the right amount of refreshment to the game, while holding the original feel and integrity of the game overwhelmingly intact. Obviously the grenade launcher is an exception, that's definitely up for debate.

The examples I gave in my original post weren't the only things I'd change. They were just a few examples.

Some other posters brought up a good point about getting splattered. In Halo 1, a moving vehicle would either nudge you out of the way or instantly kill you, with no in-between. It sucked killing myself trying to flip over my warthog.

The tank's aiming always felt a bit off to me. At anything other than close range, the tank's shells would always seem to hit higher or lower than the reticule.

Saying that they shouldn't change anything for the Halo 1 remake because it was the greatest FPS ever is like saying they shouldn't have changed anything when making Starcraft 2 because the first one was the greatest RTS ever.

There are always things that can be improved upon. If you say otherwise then I think it's because you're only remembering the things you liked about Halo 1 and are forgetting the things you didn't like. That's how nostalgia works.

Dude, the Warthog was amazing in CE. The physics of the thing is where its at.

Even if it had its flaws, minor ones if that, such as the melee range ( no lunge but you had the Reach of a gorilla) I would prefer it to be the same. Just easier on the eyes.

There are a few things I'd like changed:

1. When you're trying to pick up a single weapon, don't make it to where you pick up both and get rid of both your weapons because you're standing on two. (Yes, this happens to me all the time while playing Halo PC, happened to me a few minutes ago)

2. The touch of death. Aka, when you're in a vehicle (Let's say a warthog) and you have a team mate barely against it. You start to go and some how they die saying you betrayed them. Everyone who has played the original Halo should remember that.

3. The netcode. This one is specifically towards the PC version. It had the worst netcode I've ever seen in a game thus far. It is absolutely terrible. The only bright side to it is that it adds a larger skill gap, but, it's too much. If anyone thought that being host on Halo 3 was a big deal they should give Halo PC a go. They'd absolutely love it.

4. More game options. Halo: Combat Evolved being the first game obviously meant it had hardly any game options. I'm sure that only a few people could even name a "Custom" game from Halo: Combat Evolved. I can only think of "Paintball" and a few other no shield variants. Other than that, there was nothing.

5. Like Reach, there should be an option to pick up health packs. Not just pick them up while running over them. They should also get rid of the light that blinds you while you pick them up. I'm always confused as to if I'm being healed or getting hit by a flashbang while getting a health pack.

That's about all i can think of at the moment, but, I believe everything else should stay in tact. After all, you shouldn't accuse someone of being too nostalgic when it comes to a remake. What other true reason is there for a remake other than nostalgia?

It's not the same thing as that. Starcraft 2 was a sequel to the original Starcraft like Halo 2 was a sequel to Halo: Combat Evolved. The reason they shouldn't change much is due to it being a remake. I think most people would prefer a "remake" more than a "reimagining" as well.

Sounds like you'd like to play Halo on the PC. Just played it on my 37'' TV and it's absolutely amazing. Much better than I could ever expect Halo: Combat Evolved to ever look. I wasn't even running it at 1920x1080. It was just on 1600x900!

Our big green style, cannot be defeated!
-Sgt. A.J. Johnson - Halo 2 - Metropolis

The multi-player can be the same as Reach, but the Campaign must be the same. The lighting of the Sun on Halo should look exactly alike, Sergeant Johnson should be kill-able, but should for some reason show up again somewhere else. Captain Keyes should look the way he did in Reach though. The new alien armor in Reach can be added into the Halo. But most of all, The secret grunt should be in the exact same spot as he was in the original CE. Along with the strange Legendary ending of Sarge hugging the elite (I always thought that elite was the Arbiter, since in Halo 2, when sarge fights the Arbiter, the Arbiter only knocks him out, not killing, since he remembered their -blam!- moment on the Halo. Lol)

I played it a few times in the past at friend's houses, I didn't notice a huge difference (then again we spent most of our time on the PC maps, which obviously don't have xbox counterparts).

I've actually been thinking about picking it up for myself, but I imagine the population nowadays is just deplorable. In addition that and the netcode, I've always sucked on the keyboard.

Yeah, it's all something you've got to get used to. Have to bite the bullet for a bit to really get to the good stuff.

A lot of people don't really know how to get the full extent of Halo PC's graphical power. All of the highest settings aren't found in game. You have to turn on Anisotropic Filtering, put "-use21" into the command line, put "-vidmode 1920,1080" if your monitor/computer can handle that resolution, get the "Restored Shaders" ppf patch, set all the textures in each map to highest settings through HMT, (I don't know why they're not already by default) and either get a FoV Tool/fix the FoV through HHT on each map. Once you do all of that, you'll have your Halo PC looking spectacular. It's a lot of work, but once you're done, you'll be amazed.

Honestly I would like everything to be just like Reach, only no armor abilities. So the only things it would retain from Combat Evolved would be the missions, map designs, etc.

Combat forms should also be more vulnerable to melees.

I agree 100% with everything you said except this. Flood was a joke in Halo 2 and 3 because they were too vulnerable to melee attacks. In Halo CE their invulnerablity to melee attacks was what made them fun to fight. You actually had to fight for your life if you shot the last round out of your shotgun, you couldn't just go and melee them.

Other than that, you made very good points and following them would give us a very good experience.
