well even though I don't really like how they were depicted in Halo Legends, it gave me the impression that they pretty much stay home while the men go out and fight.

I don't see the issue what that seeing how the elites have a culture similar to the Japanese. I don't think female brutes fight ether though not sure on the reason.

In a time where women were not allowed to join the army, during war, the men would fight while the women would get jobs that are for men. Liking working in a factory. Maybe the Elite's culture is similar to ours.

Close, but the plague killed those infected with it, and the ignorant are still alive.
I wish ignorance was a plague.

I don't think we have ever been told what they do.

Me personally, I think ever position available to the male Sangheili is available to them as well. What with their whole culture being based on merit and what you can accomplish, so I think if a female is excellent as a warrior she will be one.

We don't see any in the games because it's easier to just give the Covenant all one gender, and for all we know there may not be any very obvious dimorphism amongst the Elites, at least to outsiders.

your forgetting the fact they also value honor, and from what is said about the women they seem to "stay at home".

The culture and behavior doesn't bother me so much as the lack of visible technology on their planets. I'd imagine their achitecture would be similar to that of their ships.

Good question.

  • 05.20.2011 12:48 PM PDT

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

Since Halo Legends basically set up their culture to be in a similar tone to the ancient Japanese Culture.

I would assume their role would allow the same things a female in Japanese societies/villages etc would do.

"Wort wort wort!"

Elites are reptiles. If anything, they ditch their children as eggs. I always thought of the soldiers as both male and female.

Brutes are ruled by a patriarchal mentality, so I guess they have this whole Macho attitude when it comes to the military.

Actually I don't think it was ever said that the Elites were reptiles. Actually children usually go to live with their maternal uncle (to my understanding at least) to basically put them all on relatively even footing from childhood.

Yes, honor too. Meh, other than Halo Legends I've never seen any sort of indication of that, and that idea doesn't particularly seem to fit into their way of viewing things like advancement through honor and merit.

Well if I may throw something out here, we know so little about a Sangheili female that it's ridiculous.

I mean yes we can assume that they all stay at home taking care of buisness on Sangheilios but then you look at their honor system and I can agree that the female sangehili staying at home does not fit into Sangheili culture seeing as it is based so heavily on Honor, War and blood.

One can argue that there could be few Sangheili female warrior's out in the Sangheili military even if we do not see them. And if not warriors then Ship mistresses or even less combat oriented roles within their military.

Now this is all my opinion as I will again say we know so little about the Sangheili Females and what they actually do, we know even less about the Brute females because they've never had an appearence.

Everytime someone sacks my groceries, I think of Loaf.

They kind of have a pseudo japanese/klingon/spartan culture, which means the woman are respected, but they don't fight [exception of klingon].

You were totally and absolutely correct in every way, I don't know why we were arguing, you're so amazing I should never have doubted you.

Who cares? The male Sangheili are much sexier anyways.

We can only make assumptions based on what we've seen. We won't actually know anything about that for sure until we've seen Elite females in other forms of media so we can gather more information on them.

It's what I failed at saying in my previous post.

And the fact that they're rather like the old barbarian tribes from the latter days of the Roman Empire probably plays a part in how Brutes view their women too.

Then again, the ship tech seems to be more of a Covenant theme then an Elite theme...
