Subject: Question about controlling Mjolnir and exhaustion

As I understand it, Mjolnir armour is controlled by thought. The user thinks "move your arm", the signal is transmitted through the user's neural interface to processors in the armour, which then activate the appropriate systems to move the armour's arm.

So I was wondering, say a Spartan had been pushed to the limits of their physical endurance, and they were incapable of taking another step they were so tired. As long as they were still conscious and capable of thinking, wouldn't they be able to continue on? As I understand it the armour doesn't require physical input to operate, so could you basically go slack and operate the suit entirely by thought?

Taking this further, wouldn't it then be possible to remote control a suit of Mjolnir? Send it signals that activate the suit's processes, even if they were from an external source and not the wearer? Wouldn't it be possible to send the suit a signal returning it to base if the occupant was injured or even dead?

They would be able to operate the suit, but it would be painful. They would stress out their muscles and they might tear a ligament.

Given the choice between a torn ligament or getting left behind, I'll take the ligament.

That's like having a kid twist around your broken arm.

Getting left behind is like getting dead. Ligaments can be fixed. Dead can't.

To be honest that deals with how you handle pain and how much you can tolerate it.

When i was 4 and broke my ankle (shameful reason) my father made me walk on my ankle up and down the hallway until i stopped crying and i could tolerate it.

So being much much older I normally don't fully notice something is messed up until later.

lol, you sound like you are describing the nanosuit.

No, MJOLNIR is a powered exoskeleton. If you are completely exhausted, MJOLNIR canot move for you. It simply amplifies your strength.

And yeah, I suppose an AI could control the suit, but not from a distance.

Let's keep with human AIs for the time being...

It is possible to commit no errors and still lose. That is not a weakness. That is life.

Cheeto is the only one among you that doesn't suck.

Commander Shepard disagrees.

OT, the suit only enhances reflexes, it isn't a robotic suit. It doesn't move for you.

Yes it is. Page 139 from the Fall of Reach:

"Listen carefully to me, John," Dr. Halsey said. "I just want you to think, and only think(itallics mine), about moving your arm up to chest level. Stay relaxed."

He willed his arm to move, and his hand and forearm sprang forward to chest level.

Human Ai could do the same. It would just need to be inside the suit. But I don't get it, why to put Spartans inside the suits if AI could do the same? It couldn't even get injured and no human can have faster reaction time and more precise movement than AI.

TMK it's explained in either TFoR or FR that the suit doesn't operate on thought but on amplified feedback from the user. Basically you move you're arm up and the suit moves the arm up in response.

Which is why only the Spartans can wear them, because of the amplification the response force is enough to break a normal person.

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

^haha i was thinking the exact same thing when i saw that comment. I was about to reference ME and then bang, you beat me to it.

:)

On-topic- The Suit only works for augmented humans, who most likely have increased resistance to torn ligaments and so on.
