I'm a bit skeptical about playing online because of the risk of viruses, hackers, etc. Is there a big risk or am I just crazy?

I've never heard of a specific computer being maliciously attacked while in game, either by an outside intruder or by an in-game intruder. The game is safe enough that you can play without any firewall at all (although not recommended, just in case). I have heard of hacked games, in other words, wirehacks or aimbots. But those have no effect whatsoever on any players, aside from giving the hacker the advantage through wireframes (also known as the map geometry), etc.

I know all that above may not be the clearest thing I've ever written, so if you don't understand any aspect of it, feel free to post and I'll fill you in some more...

and one of the players made me say stuff without me even toutching the keyboard it was freaky he made me say things like "hey im fat and wont start the next game" it was quite shocking, so whatever i dont play trial anymore yay!!!

He wasn't hacking you or your computer he was hacking the game on his server to appear like you were saying the text when it was in fact he was typing it. Kinda the same as the people that logon to the Bungie servers using the name =PAT= Nick and act stupid, tarnishishing his good name.
