During his training, Kurt quickly proved himself to be considered one of the program's top candidates. Both Dr. Halsey and Chief Mendez identified him as one of four emerging leaders within the Spartan-II group, along with Jerome-092, Frederic-104, and John-117. Chief Mendez expressed his belief the most strongly in Kurt as having the skills to lead the entire Spartan-II group, although Halsey disagreed, instead believing John would fulfill that role.
Favoritism much?
Yet it really happened like she predicted,if Kurt was a better leader then he would have lead the SII's instead of John.
Truth is, Kurt was as good if not better than John at leading(hence why he was chosen to train the Spartan III's as opposed to John or anybody else for that matter), Green Team often defeated Blue Team (because of his ability to sniffle out traps), but he was the leader of it and thus, the victory could be attributed to him.
Besides, unlike John, Kurt actually spent time socializing, getting to know other people well. If memory serves me right, John was uneasy because Kurt was too much of a socializer and he thought that may affect his concentration. What kind of leader distrusts those under his/her command? I mean I would get it if they never had any sort of interaction, but they practically grew up together for christ's sake. Anyways, returning to the uneasy thing, by the end of the day, Kurt was the one that ended up saving John, Kelly, Fred and Linda's ass because he was the only one with enough common sense to avoid an (obvious) trap.
Besides, the members of his team trusted his actions and decisions because of his (yet again mentioned) "Sixth sense" add that to his care for them (something that was increased as he trained the Spartan III's, whom one could consider his "sons and daughters) and you get a terrific leader.
-Training new Spartans isn't the same as leading .
And again his sixth sense has nothing to do with leadership qualities,he didn't beat the other team with his leadership,it was with his trap smells.
Learn the difference between the two before making any claims.
-So?Kurts behavior was a bit non spartan behavior,i mean who would want to talk with "ONI freaks"?No he was uneasy because of Kurts weird feelings with the traps.Wouldn't you be uneasy if someone feels hell coming but you can't?So what, the SII's didn't trusted the twitchy behavior of the SIII's neither. And?that doesn't proves anything.
John had mixed feelings about using SPARTAN-051, Kurt, as Sam's replacement on
Blue Team. On the one hand, he was an extremely capable Spartan. Chief Mendez had
routinely given him command of Green Team during training exercises, and Kurt had often
won when facing John's Blue Team. But on the other hand, he was, for a Spartan,
undisciplined. He took time to talk with every Spartan, and even the non-Spartan personnel
that trained and supplied them. As a professional soldier in the middle of two wars, one
fighting an entrenched rebellion, the other taking on a technologically superior xenophobic
alien race, Kurt spent a considerable amount of time and energy making friends.
"Move," John told his team.
Kurt hesitated, eyes still fixed on the monitors.
"What?" John asked.
"A funny feeling," Kurt whispered.
This worried John. Everyone had performed flawlessly, and there were no signs the
enemy had reacted to their presence. But Kurt had a reputation for sniffing out ambushes.
John had been on the receiving end of Kurt's intuition several times during training.
John felt uneasy around him because of his ability and his social behavior.
