Subject: Are the Books Any Good?

I read the Mass Effect novels , and they made an excellent supplement to the universe. Are these worth reading?

Some of them are better than others but in short, yes.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

Yes, they are totally worth it as they expand the Universe in a great way (reason for the war, backstory for the Spartans and The Covenant, etc).

Never say you're bored. Never say you're satisfied with the world. Never stop doubting or questioning things. Always wonder. Always think. But always take time to drop your guard, you don't have to be smart all the time.

Post this in the off topic forum.

This pertains to the Universe forum, as he is asking about something that will probably help him know said universe better, so no, this goes here.

Yes, all the books are quite good, I have only really disliked one of them so far, and other than that one all the books are awesome and add a lot to the Halo Universe, I'd say they're indispensable to anyone who truly wants to know and understand Halo.

So good and there's so much blood.

Absolutely. They're really well done for the most part. The Flood is really the only one that didn't do much for me, but I really enjoyed the rest.

The only good one is Contact: Harvest, the rest are horrible reads.

You obviously dont know where things go around here.

OP: Yes, all the Halo novels are amazing reads, very entertaining and supplement the universe alot. The Halo universe is alot bigger than you can imagine only being confined to the games.

No they are horrible, the worst books i have ever read.

This is the reason we say they are better than the games because even though they suck they are still better than halo reach.
Not to mention they change canon so much and mess up everything

/sarcasm

Ach! Was ist los?

I read the first three novels and found them solidly mediocre. Fall of Reach and First Strike in particular were both rife with mistakes any competent editor should have picked up on.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

Yes, they're good. Everybody has different opinions, but I think they're all good except, "The Flood."

  • 05.23.2011 12:20 PM PDT

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Some of them are. Fall of Reach and First Strike are really enjoyable, as well as Ghosts of Onyx. Contact Harvest was a good read too, although some things were sort of bad decisions on the author's part. And then Cole Protocol is alright, Cryptum is bad, and that anthology of a bunch of stories is interesting. Uprising is a good read because it gives you all the info between Halo 2 and 3. Those are all the ones I've read.

They're good reads and entertaining if you enjoy military sci-fi books; they're especially enjoyable if you like the games and the Halo universe. But they're by no means classic books that are literary achievements. And they're not trying to be.

If you're referring to canonical mistakes, then that would bring us to the game-book debate; which dictates Halo canon?

For me it's the games. I haven't read the books, and I'm sure if I did that I would hold them as fact. Still, I think the games overrule the books, though I think there should be further plot development in-game.

Close, but the plague killed those infected with it, and the ignorant are still alive.

It is obvious that people that say cryptum is "bad" aren't deep into halo lore.
