lol u mad bro

What happened to the AA's. I thought Reach took place before Halo 1. Did they all just dissappear?

This game was released in 2001, way before Reach. They added AAs as a gimmick to try and refresh gameplay, but for the most made it worse.

Imagine a triangle. It's perfect, but a little plain. You take a chisel, and carve a small decorative symbol into it to make it a little more interesting. People like it, but it could use a little more.

So you then take a sledgehammer..

AA's (from what I can tell) could only be used by Spartan IIIs in their prototype Mk. V armor. But I might be wrong about that.

This. AA's were never a part of the Halo universe.

no. nonono

If they were to make everything realistic then all the games would be the exact same because they wouldn't want historically incorrect features.
It's a video game, it doesn't matter.

I thought they injected a bit of fun back into the game. Other than the balance issues that were present in some playlists, it brought back that need to be a multidimensional player, something that I think has been absent since CE.

Story wise though, your exactly right. I don't think i've seen anything in writing that retcons them, just one of those things that was added.

Story wise, since Reach is a military colony, all weapon and equipment prototypes were made there. When Reach was completely pwned by the Covenant, all the awesome equipments were all destroyed.

It only takes a simple question to change everything.

They were all destroyed on Reach.

There were a few retcons. Specifically, a few big ones that could have easily been avoided.

To be fair, the concept is good. It's too bad someone decided to add Armor Lock. I mean, in vehicular maps, it would be good as a "bumper" of sorts, but complete invincibility, damage reflection, and EMP in a primarily close-quarters game is utterly stupid.

Agreed, i'm not sure why Bungie felt the need to inject so much unnecessary change into the universe with Reach. I understand injecting small things for the sake of gameplay, like AA's, but the story changes were nonsense.

My only standing complaint with AL was how quickly it activiated/deactivated, and the players ability to incrementally drain it. If they would have set it up like roll/evade with two finite charges that are single use, as well as introduce a delay once it's released, I think it would have worked out just fine.

That still would have resulted in close-quarters abuse. The problem here is that it's instantaneous and way too powerful.

Including a delay in user action upon release, and limiting it to two segmented uses before a recharge period would nerf that quite affectively though. As it stands it isn't really difficult to counter someone using AL, the issue is that they can spam it and counter attack right out of it's release.

They could just remove it completely, but I think that would be taking it a bit too far.
