Since this Monday (1/30/06), every time y wish to join an internet multiplayer game the "the game has closed down" message/error appears right before starting the game play, making it impossible to join any multiplayer match.
I checked on the internet where they suggested uninstalling the "gamespy" software, however the problem still persists.
Anyone had this problem before? Anyone knows how to solve it?

As background information my pc is pretty rudimentary, however I never had any problem playing halo. System specs:
PIII 800Mhz, 256Mb RAM, GeForce 4 MX440 video card and running windows xp sp2.
My internet connection is 1mb download and 128kb upload.

Thanks you very much for any help.

I had the same problem too for a while, and it had something to do with my router, cos now that I have a new Linksys one, the problem is gone.

Make sure that your router and firewall are configured properly (read: open ports 2302 and 2303)

Thanks for the help, however even by opening the ports the problem still continues.
I have my pc plugged directly to my internet connection, so no router involved.
It could be my internet service the problem?

Any more Ideas?

As for a long shot to see what would happen.
I downloaded and installed the Halo Demo game, and I had no problem at all in playing the internet multiplayer games. This is a bit confusing.

Any ideas?
Thanks.

Try un-installing all the Halo versions (PC, CE, Demo) as well as any GameSpy software. Powercycle your box, then re-install HaloPC (Make sure that you choose to install GameSpy with it, it's an option you can check when installing, you'll see it), powercycle your box, then attempt to connect to the servers.

You'll be forced to download whatever patch we're currently on, but the Halo system will do that for you automatically.

If that doesn't work, you've got something else going on.

One question: Can you open up the single-player campaign, or does that error out as well?

I have a cable connection of 1mb download and 128kb upload, so it should be like a slow DSL connection.

McKeegan_WRX, I hope that with "powercycle my box" you mean that I should upgrade my pc hardware, which I will do in the near future. And yes, I am able to play the single player campaign game without any problem.
I will try to do a full clean re-install of halo. This problem appeared all of a sudden, so perhaps I’ll try to even to format my hard drive and start from cero to see what happens, however I’ll like to try some ideas before.

Thanks.

This will sound obvious, but I'll mention it anyway: make sure you are not running any filesharing/ftp programs in the background, because it doesn't take a lot of traffic to clog up a 128k upload line.

"Powercycle" is geek speak for "Restart," or "Turn it off, then turn it back on." Your PC currently meets the requirements to play HaloPC, plus you've played it on this PC before, so I don't believe it's a hardware issue; it's got to be software related, which the uninstall-reinstall should help.

If the uninstall-reinstall does not work, then there's something else going on in your PC that's software related. What were the last few things you downloaded/installed before Halo stopped working? If the re-install doesn't help, remembering what software changes were made on the machine, and then "un-doing" those software changes should fix the issue.

Unfortunately still trying to figure out what happened, besides I've been pretty busy lately for a doing a full pc powercycling, and to play halo lately. I have a hunch the problem might be related with my internet service.
Thanks for all the help and the support
