Subject: Is Hardened Shielding possible in Halo?

Ignore my gamertag. It's actually Dragonzzilla.

Hardened Shielding is a special form of shielding from the StarCraft universe, created by the ingenious alien Protoss. It triggers only when powerful attacks hit it, however the shielding does not trigger on weak attacks.

Long story short, the shields are extremely tough when it comes to rocket launchers and vehicles. For example, a round from a Tank will trigger the Shield, but pistols won't.

Is this technology possible in Halo? Who would use it, and what would its purpose be?

Well, the sheild protecting the spire in reach only responded to fast projectiles (jorge and 6 managed to pass through relatively slowly)

So technically it is possible.

Forerunner shields are closest to that I can think of. They only trigger from high speed projectiles and energy weapons. Low speed projectiles go straight through. Technically that's pretty much the same as low speed usually means low energy.

I believe Forerunners could be able to make that kind of shields but not humans or Covenant.

Fear the Wafflepan

because of EMP, a different effect altogether.

Onyx Sentinels seem to have something similar to what Immortals posses, so maybe it's possible.

I don't want to derail the thread but I have often wondered why Spartan's can't overcharge their shields when they expect a larger attack.

Maybe simply because there isn't an option to? The closest thing I can think of to overcharging their shield is making the shield as thick as possible in one area. If I remember correctly it was stated they could change the thickness of their shields in The Fall of Reach.

You were totally and absolutely correct in every way, I don't know why we were arguing, you're so amazing I should never have doubted you.

Armor Lock does that, although it is not canon.

Sorry, but actually that's wrong. It sadly is canon even though it's impossible to be invulnerable. Even Precursors couldn't do that.

forerunners did it with slipspace pods

Onyx Sentinels have similar shielding, though I doubt it's the exact same science. And like hardened shielding, its nearly unbreakable.

Though I do believe a rocket launcher did kill an Onyx Sentinel , I think it was thrown into a wall, crashed and burned, less so because of the roket itself.
