These are just some gudelines that you should follow if you want to be a good 'hog driver. Use these tactics in every map (except close quarters, duh!).
I'm a really good driver (no matter what anybody says), so pay attention. I hate it when I get in the gun (because the driver's spot is taken) and the guy driving frickin' flips the warthog or stops at some random point, gets out and leaves me there to die. I'm really good at driving because I NEVER flip the 'hog (unless helped by a grenade or rocket or something). I also know how to maneuver the 'hog so that the gunner is never a sitting duck.
Some advice -
1. When nobody is around, take the flat surfaces to keep from flipping the 'hog.
2. When there are people around, take little jumps to make it harder for them to get a bead on you. DON'T try to be a dare devil and take the biggest jump just because it would be cool.
3. NEVER leave your gunner because then he becomes a sitting duck.
4. If the 'hog flips, DON'T try to flip it and get back in right away. Make sure you secure the area around the 'hog first (that means clearing the area of hostiles for any who didn't know that).
5. Three people in a 'hog are better than two (or one).
6. DON'T spin in circles doing donuts trying to run over one person, let your gunner take care of him.
7. DON'T block hallways and stuff because that just pisses people off.
8. DON'T drift into rocks on purpose because it just slows you down.
9. In a CTF game, the gunner (or passenger) should get out and go for the flag. The driver, meanwhile, should circle the area with the 'hog so he isn't a sitting duck (good ex.=Blood Gulch). When the gunner has the flag, he should come out and wait to be picked up by the driver. Three people in the hog are best for this because then you can still keep the gunner while you are circling the area waiting for the passenger to get the flag.
10. Last, ALWAYS put the pedal to the metal! Hoo-rah!
Everybody makes mistakes, but you should try to follow these guidelines as much as you can. If you do, you will notice a big increase in your 'hog driving abilities. And remember that 'hog driving is not a newb tactic, it's an art. If you think any more guidelines could be added, send me a message.
