I work at Microsoft. I have nothing to do with Halo and nothing I say is "the official word".

First of all, if you start a thread with an obnoxious title, you are at a disadvantage from the start. Exclamation tails!!!!1!!!!!!!!!!!! and TYPING IN ALL CAPS do not make people want to read you thread. They just make them think you are immature.

In the body of a post, perfect grammar and 100% correct spelling is not always necesary; it does however help and shows that you are willing to put effort into what you want to say. At the very least, make it readable. don star typin lik tis. If you must emphasize a word while typing simply use italics or bold, do not fall back on the standard 'all caps' approach.
There are a few things that you should avoid doing in the body of your post so that people will consider your opinion more fully and think higher of you:
1) Do not make one-sided polls. They are of no value to anyone.
2) Typing Lik3 thi5 is not coolzorzzz.
3) Do not flame people who disagree with you, allow them to have their own opinion.

Above all, treat others and yourself with respect.

To Make Posts is Glorious

Some threads will get posts before others and it is the duty of the Leadership to ensure that posts are made that best suit the public welfare.

The only thing I wonder is, where did all the "How does me becomes a mod!!!" threads go? They used to be as abundant as pudding!

We know these guidelines. The respect pointer is something members must agree on, to join bungie.net. Personally, I don't use the internet slang, but I do not beleive you have the right to tell people not to. Some members find it fun, some "just feel like it", and they are allowed to use it. That was not ment to be a insult, or an athority approach, it was ment to get a point across.

As for your "number 1", one sided polls do not exist. Sure people can make a bungie.net poll, but if it does not have two or more sides to it, it is not a true questionnare/poll.

There are two people reading your thread.
The ones who do the things you ward off, and notify not to do. Then the others, the ones who already do them, and do not need to anounce it to the world. Plus, by doing this you do not make people feel under your athority, nor to you seem "powerful". Here's a tip: If you wish make a statement that some people may find offensive, end it in a friendly note; as such:

Your thread was actually a good idea, and personally I liked it. The problem is; you are sharing your opinion, and other people have other opinions. I do these things, and find your thread pretty straight forward. I doubt anyone who doesn't already do these things will start, but if they do, kuddos to them.

Good post, but you forgot a couple things. Specifically; breaking up your post to make it easier to read, using a mature command of language, and haveing a good point, so that if an arguement occurs, you have the upper hand. (Which in your writing I see.)

Good job english teacher. *wink*

Anyone who has been here awhile has seen their share of polls like this:
1) Remove Team Duals
2) TEAM DUALS IS AWFUL! REMOVE IT!
3) I'm an idiot because I like team duals.
The subject can vary, and option 3 may or may not be there.

Respecting others' opinions is even on the list I believe.

The stuff I didn't quote here I agree with mostly.

Now the idea here is that by not replying in a manner like "this thread is teh dumbzorz you are obviously retarded let people type how they will", you managed to get me to read your whole post and consider what you said.

I don't make threads unless compelled to do so. These rules would still apply to someone like me, but more like the people in Zanzibar, Flood, and Optimatch.

Besides the point, I can't stand typing like "oh em ef gee guys were lik teh kewlest peeple herez0rz." Even that took long enough for me to type like that...

I find it ironic that most of the people that are going to read this already know this, and those that post in Zanzibar never will.

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

I'm not really sure why we need all the guides. People can think for themselves, you know =P

I guess the best way is to be polite and sensible about it.

and I don't mean by
Dear Mr Bungie I don't like you banning me for breaking the rules
That isn't sensible.

Also don't be rude, IF YOU ARE TALKING IN ALL CAPS AND BOLD or UNDERLINING JUST TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE YOU ARE SCREAMING YOU MIGHT BE OFFENDING SOMEONE AND LOOK COMPLEETLY IMATURE

Once again commen sense takes pecedense.

BahamutZERO, thanks for reading my post, and considering it. One thing grasps my curiosity though...team duals? Have I really been off Xbox live that long? How many new features are there?

Dark Assassin, read the Bungie article about changes in Optimatch or go to the Optimatch forum . Bungie dropped two optimatchs and added some others. Team snipers became ranked. They added Team ActionSack, Rumble Armory, 6 vs. 6, the ranking to team snipers, and maybe something else I can't remember. I hope this helped answer your question.

Ohh yes, I know about those. I did not know if there were additional updates. I've played Shwat guns...thought it was okay. The title was clishe, and it was basically a grenade war. A some how addictive game to me though.

Let's stay on topic though.

...thanks for duplicating my thread...i am sure people will notice the difference:
How to get people to consider your opinion vs. How to make a successful thread.

There was a difference, this is just how to right in a manner respectful to yourself and others so that others will treat you maturely. Has nothing to do with what kind of topics are interesting.
Aside from encouraging proper spelling, I don't see any duplicate advice.

It's not a contest to see who's guide is better. It's not who's is more popular. You shouldn't even bother making a guide if those are yourt motives, because it will most likely be pointless and, thus, useless. I'm not sure why we need these guides anyway. Mose of it is common sense it seems.

I'm not saying anything of popularity, just that I didn't remake his guide. And it should be common sense, but a quick stroll through optimatch and zanzibar sadly shows that it is not.

Perhaps BahamutZERO made this thread not knowing a similar one was already created. He simply made this to help people; more specifically, with getting people to make good posts and getting readers. As we all saw, his thread title was a good hook that made many people curious. He knew that by making a simple title, and wording it right, he would get very many replies. A clever trick, and most people don't know how to master it.

"How to get people to consider your opinion," is a great title. It does not have an uneeded "(read this)" to convince people to read it. Obviously you want people to read your post, so why bother typing "read this". (For those of you who are technical, I know I just posted the words "read this", three times, from hence forth.

Once again, the title was good for getting the intrest of people; and its body made for a good follow up.

It is absolutely baffling to me how quickly this thread has been degenerated into a repose for bleeding egos.

I'm not pointing fingers or naming anyone, because there's, frankly, no point in arguing about it.

I think you give people a lot of credit, Pink Menace, but it is refreshing to find an optimist around here.

Guides are (or, at least, should be) made to enrich the community, not show off how much better you are than anyone else. Don't take offense if someone doesn't realize they've made a guide you have already written - it's not like there's a search feature on the forums [\endHintToBungie].

I've written about half a dozen guides that I've posted on B.net. I've been on both sides of the fence. Can't we all just get along?

I would say that everyone who visits the Septagon regularly knows about what it takes to make a good topic. If not all, then perhaps about 85%.

So this means that no one in the Septagon needs these guides, or basically any guides about how to act on the forums. The catch? This is where such guides belong.

I will agree that a lot of people in other forums don't know what they are doing (or at least seem like it), but we can't make guides for them in those forums, because the guides don't belong there. Besides, no one in the other forums pays any attention anyways when it comes to guides. Hence the fact that many forum guides in other forums have been stickied, then taken down as they were ignored.

So while guides are made to help, and while in theory it should work, in practicality the problem is that the creator is "preaching to the choir," or is being completely ignored.
