I used to play Halo 3 and ODST a lot, but my service record somehow was deleted when I signed up for Xbox Live, and now it says I played one game of firefight.

I wish there were customisable classes in Halo. If there was, I would play it 100 times more than I do now. If this gets to any creater of Halo games, please consider it.

My name is Legion, for we are many.

Awesome idea but Halo, largely, is an Arena-styled shooter, meaning that everyone has the same set of weapons and it's entirely down to skill and brute force at that point. Item hunting leads to strategic planning and map control and makes Halo what it is right now. It's reasonably RPG-ish but it's not about playing time accumulating and giving you better weapons, the way Call of Duty works.

You know, when you're having a bad day, you just gotta let yourself go!

Nope.

Personally, I think it's a great idea. Although, I prefer that the weapons you could choose from were only starting weapons such as: Assault Rifles, Battle Rifles and Pistols. It would be a great idea because there are so many variants of these guns. Example:

Let's say if you reach a certain level you get to unlock the Halo 1 pistol and Halo 3 Battle Rifle or you could get an extra mag for the AR so that you can have 60 bullets instead of 32. Also, there could be a perks/armor ability that gives you the ability to dual wield certain weapons.

I believe that things like this would make Halo have more variety. I admit that this idea is a bit of a Call of Duty adaptation, but it seems to fit with Halo 'cause throughout the series there have been many types of weaponry and equipment used that we only get to experience in one game.

Ahh...The Variety...MA5B, MA37, MA5K...
SMG, with Silencer, etc...

Incredibly unfair on the lesser users part.

Wouldn't it be nice, you are a new player you get to select two weapons to your class. You can only choose between Assault Rifles and Pistols. In your very first game you start happily running around. Few seconds from spawn you get blasted by a Rocket Launcher. You think it was just a random occasion. When you spawn again you only get to run few meters when you get killed by a Sniper Rifle. Now you realize that everyone in the game is higher ranked than you and is using Rocket LAuncher and Sniper Rifle.

Doesn't that sound fair? No, it doesn't. Custom Classes only fit to games with very fast kill times. In Halo it would just lead to everyone selecting Sniper Rifle and Rocket Launcher as that's all you need. Most of the weapon sandbox would be left useless.

Halo CE pistol with it's 0.96 second kill time vs. Halo 3 BR with it's 4 second kill time. Yeah, that sounds fair. What about Assault Rifle? 60 bullets = Two kills, 32 bullets = One kill. Then to dual wielding, two SMGs vs. one SMG. Two SMGs kill twice as fast. They also happen to have twice the ammo.

Custom classes just simply don't work in Halo. In my opinion they don't work in any game but it's not really my problem. Especially in game with long kill times like Halo, custom classes would produce the game to be unbalanced. Halo should be taken to it's roots, not to any Halo/CoD hybrid.

That's why they have to also improve the Matchmaking so that you get matched with your equivalents. I play MW2 a lot and I get to own people with desert eagles and their maxed out barrets. It's all about strategy. Also, if you kill them, you can steal their weapon and use it against them.

It still doesn't work. How can you steal a Halo CE pistol from some guy if you can't kill him. Matching people by rank may sound like a good system but it doesn't work. Trueskill would also need to be taken into account. This would lead to extremely long search times.

Games like MW2 are ruining the video game industry. They fool people with easy success. Which leads to high amount of players who like false feeling of accomplsihment when they kill an opponent who had no chance because they had a better weapon. This leads to other developers to emulate the formula. It would be okay if the formula was good but when it's bad, it leads to bad games designed for people who can't play. The industry was doing fine before 2009. Look at it now. Most of FPS games are cheap CoD copies with customizable classes. There is zero originality these days when it comes to FPS.

The CoD formula doesn't work. It may attract a lot of players and feel good but it's false. Gamers are being cheated. "Wow, finally I can dominate other players. Finally I have become good". No, you haven't. You have just been fooled by a system that makes the game easier to you. This leads to you feeling like a good player.

Do you get it now why I don't want anything taken from CoD? I have followed the fall of video game industry for a long time. It has just gone worse and worse every year. In 2009 it started to progress faster and faster because of the increasing amount of MW2 copies. It needs to stop.

Edit: I apologize the amount of off-topicness in that post. I just had to express my honest opinion and reasons for it.

It's alright, I get what your saying. Opinions are opinions. The reason why I proposed that idea is because I'm sick of the current formula used in Halo. So we earn credits... for cheap armor that have no effects? I mean that a load of BS. At first, it's cool, but after a while it gets boring. There's not really a reason to play because your getting rewarded with virtual armor. Basically, what I want is something new, but I don't really know what that is. Hopefully, 343 thinks of something cool 'cause I'm gonna hang myself if we get a game with moar credits and armor that don't do anything.

Thank you for your understanding. I personally like the old Halo CE formula the best, no ranks, no armor, no other cheap gimmicks. The problem I see with classes is that no matter what, every player never starts on equal ground. Starting on equal round has always been part of the Halo formula, except in Reach. I believe the next Halo should go back to that.

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

^Agreed
Equal grounds, or should i say competitive game play balance promotes skill.

Reach lacks this.

  • 05.29.2011 3:50 AM PDT

Reach is a joke ged

Please don't ruin halo anymore...

  • 05.29.2011 4:12 AM PDT

I agree with this, if they were to do it with perks and stuff like that it would be call of duty, and most people I'm sure would hate that. Halo keeps it far and makes you have to strategize.

  • 05.29.2011 4:36 AM PDT

I really have to disagree with the idea of 'earning' your loadouts over your gaming lifetime. It leaves the newer players at a disadvantage when they haven't had the chance to earn the more powerful weapons the older players might already have.
